yeah I do think they have a chance to make it. Earlier in the season, they actually looked quite good. but the QB situation started to hurt them like it does with any team who doesn't have a concistant QB as starter. They will get Jake Delhomme back and that will be a huge key to their season.

The receiving corps is so weak that defenses can simply focus on Steve Smith....that is embarrassing and a reflection on the coaching staff. The QB situation is still in flux, with Carr, Vin and possibly Jake not on the roster in training camp. The running game is good, though the line could improve.
Defensively, the club is very good, but this isn't the "tough-as-nails" unit from a few years back. And there may be coaching changes due to assistants leaving for other jobs or being released (one of those edicts, they go, or the head coach goes).
The Panthers have some catching up to do and the holes they have to fill is not going to be done with a couple draft picks or reclamation projects from other teams.

I don't agree that the Panthers have an elite defense. The Panthers are DEAD LAST in the NFL in sacks, and they rank near the middle of the NFL in every other important defensive stat (points allowed per game, yards allowed per game, etc). The Panthers have an AVERAGE defense.
I think the offense could turn around fast. The Panthers could have one of the better offenses in the NFC if DeAngelo Williams lives up to his potential, Delhomme gets fully healthy, and some receiver steps up to take some pressure off of Steve Smith.
However, I think the defense is quite flawed. They have to find some guys other than Peppers who can pass rush, because Peppers clearly can't do it all on his own. They won't be a Super Bowl contender until they can pressure the passer MUCH better than they have done this season.

No not until they find a reliable option besides Steve Smith those "scrubs" they call WRs havent done nothing to take the pressure off Smith. Teams know that hes the only real option they have so they double and triple cover him and let the other "receivers" run open and yet they still cannot come up with the ball? Not to mention the QB play, I believe when jake somes back thers no questio that will help out but he and Smith need more help, Deshawn the RB whatever his name is also has to get going he is wayy to inconsistant. Man they were just in the Super Bowl a few years ago what the hell happened? If they draft some WRs and get them going they can have one of the top offenses in the league Steve is a beast when he gets the ball!

Depends on if John Fox is back or not. The owner says he is safe, but that means nothing really.
Apparantly it was all David Carr's fault that Houston was a loser. I stand corrected.
Foster has shown flashes, but really has never established himself as THE guy, and has had several years now to do that. Williams looks very promising...
First and foremost they need a healthy Jake Delhomme..and that will only last another year or two...so they need to start grooming someone else...not Matt Moore.
They have lots of potential further down from Steve Smith, but they need Jake back to throw to them
They might just need to get healthy with who they have.

Nope not yet. The Panthers have a great defense like Julius Peppers but they are not ready for the Superbowl yet. Too bad Pepper is Injured.

No the Panthers are on the way down while others are bouncing up, so there will be stiffer competition in the NFC next year then in the previous few years
