I bought a jacket that is a few sizes too big, would washing it make it fit or would the wool jacket shrink too much?

I didn't even know my jacket had wool in it, till I washed it.
I got it as a gift.
I can still put it on, but it's tight and looks rediculous on me, and is a bit short now.
It's a wool blend though. I'll be giving it to my nieces daughter :)

If a wool jacket is too big, take it back. If you try to do anything to "shrink" it, you will only shrink the wool but the lining will stay the same. It will never be right. If you can't take it back, donate it to the Salvation Army or Goodwill where it will be better used in its original size and state. Don't destroy a perfectly good jacket.

It would shrink it, but you would have no control over how much.
