It doesn't matter how big or small the ballpark is if Prior can't throw pitches without his arm falling off.
Am I the only one who suspects that this guy is an ex-juicer? Lots of inexplicable, nagging injuries and a big drop in pitch velocity...

I hope he bounces back and does great because he is really a great talent, but unfortunatley, at best I'd be surprised to see him as much more than a 3 or 4 starter for the rest of his career. With his injury and surgery history, he is sure to have lost something off of what was at best a mid-90's fastball to begin with, and the fact of the matter is, he hasn't pitched since 2006, where he went 1-6 with an ERA over 7.
Pitching at Petco Park could help him a bit because it is serious pitchers upgrade over Wrigley, but he has to stay healthy and on the field for any of that to matter, and given the past, and the fact that he is already going to miss a month or two, i just don't see him doing much. I think the signing is a great risk vs. reward for San Diego, but if i were a Padres fan, I would expect too much from this guy

It all depends on his health and how much of his skills remain in tact. He is a huge health risk and the Padres were willing to bring him home to San Diego and give him, what might turn out to be, his last shot at a comeback. He has a one year $1 million dollar contract so he will have to show he has something left or there will be no 2009 for Prior.

I have no idea how he will do with the San Deigo Padres, he could be better or worse, he will have to see. He might still have injures he might not. We will only have to see, but the Padres are willing to take that risk, that Jim Hendry wasn't. This where is from, he might have friends/family there, and it will be easier for tem to see me pitch in person, then it would have then with the Chicago Cubs. Plus he is playing in a whole new ballpark, Petco Park, then Wrigley Field. Plus how long it will take for him to be get used to being in a whole new ballpark, where has night games there, will be played when it is late night in Chicago. Mark Prior makes his homecoming to Wrigley Field May 12-15th, but it is doubtful that he will play, since he isn't expected to return until at least the All-star game, and the Chicago Cubs don't come to San Diego until 2-4, so it doesn't look like that he will be able to pitch against the Chicago Cubs, for at least 2008. But I bet it will be strange for Chicago Cubs fans to get used to seeing him in a Padres unifrom.

idk wheather to congradulate the padres or feel sorry for them. i've been a cubs fan all my life and ever since that run in the playoffs with zambrano and wood, he's never pitched the same. everytime i'd look in the paper and see that the cubs put him on the dl i'd laugh and so every1 around me and say what a surprise. nothing against the man really good pitcher but i think his best days have left. if he has a really good finishing career well then im gonna call the cubs stupid for letting him go but he's a gamble.

Hard to say. The man is so fragile, he reminds me of Chad Pennington (God bless him). He won't be under too much pressure to carry the staff, that's for sure, since he will be pitching with Peavy and Young in the rotation. He is decent when he is healthy, but he has missed so much time it will be hard to tell if he can get back in the game. Wait and see.

if he gets injured again through half the season i think his stats will be- 7 wins 4 loses, 79 strikeouts and a 4.59 era. if he doent get injured and pitches good, his stats well be- 14 wins and 9 losses. 146 strike outs and a 4.30 era. if he has a all-star year, his stats will be 16 wins and 8 loses. 195 strikeouts. and a 3.06 era. if he has a cy young year, i think his stats will be, 18 wins and 5 loses. 223 strikeouts and a 2.59 era. if he does horrible i think his stats will be 3 wins 11 loses. 118 strikeouts and a 6.73 era.

No matter what the padres made a good deal.
They are paying him practically nothing unless he performs well. And if he regains even half of the pitcher he was they are looking good.
I think it should be looked at like he is a #5 pitcher starting out and any better performance will be icing on the cake.

No worse than he did in Chicago. If he rebounds from all that inactivity, the Padres' pitching will be top notch (and will be darn good if he doesn't) but let's just say he may be the biggest question mark of 2008.

He will break down by June. San Diego and mostly all the the NL West parks are pitcher's parks. He should do good if he stays healthy.
