I really liked the idea scooter or someone had about ending the violation nuisance by meeting under a different setting. I don't care for a chat environment of that sort, but the idea dawned on me there might be a place for something similar where seniors might really get some help learning things they want or need to know.
For instance, if someone formed a Yahoo Seniors Group for each of us to tutor others I'd be happy to do it for MS Excel, MS Access, Adobe Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, or any other software I know how to use. And maybe someone knows them better than I do, giving me an opportunity to learn something.
But the same might apply to a lot of other avenues.
We're all experts on something, and we're all dunces on other things we might need badly that someone else knows.
Does this sound useful or doable to any of you?

ahsoasho2u2: Thanks for the reply. Those probably would be great for those who live near those stores. But maybe some don't.
I only intended those as examples. Fact is, a lot of us probably know about home plumbing repairs, installing water heaters, repairing roof leaks and appliances, raising poultry and a lot of other things others mightn't think they want to know until the need arises.
But maybe you're right and it's a useless idea. No big deal if that's the case.
Just a thought I was running up on the flagpole to see if anyone saluted.
Gracias

Scooter: I'm obliged to you, but I'll have to take a pass on the IM thing. But I do appreciate the invitation.
Best to all of you folk. I think you have found a positive approach to resolving a problem you'd been plagued with for some while.
Gracias

The Voice of: That ought to be easy enough without taking a lot of time. Good idea. If enough people are interested maybe it would be a good place to begin something.
Thanks for the reply

I think it would be a great idea to be able to learn from some one that speaks plain old timer English. I'd love to learn more about the basics of computer operations such as the difference between cut and paste and copy and paste and other simple everyday things. (Sending photo's in emails, backing stuff up, etc.) The instruction books seem to assume I already know something I don't. I can't get out and about to attend classes as one negative minded person suggested.

I joined a couple of the groups that have been started, but since I work nights and sleep during the day, I was never on to chat during "primetime".And, when I did check in, there was so much chatting or bickering going on that I didn't have time to read all the posts to catch up on what I missed. It would be great to have a seniors site to go to with informative links for tutorials to walk us through some of the basic computer stuff like Ebay does if you have ever been on their site. Then, if there were any additional questions, you could leave a message and in due time, someone would answer. The nearest Staples, Home Depot, etc is over 20 miles from my house, so this is a great idea!

It sounds like a great idea however I have found from trying to help someone they usually have a mind set and will go with an incorrect answer when you know you are not wrong. Gets upsetting after a while to see people continually make wrong choices.
I used to have my own construction company but when they discover I'm a girl my answers are poop. I only had so much room to move back to Idaho from No. Carolina, I chose my tools over pots and pans. Seldom use them now but they are all in good condition and ready to roll. ;0)

I think that Y/A was sort of supposed to be like that to begin with, but I like the idea of something for boomers/seniors where we can share our knowledge and skills with one another. I know I'm the more comfortable on this 'Senior' site than a lot of other areas and I like reading the input from those here.
I'm not sure how you would do this, but it is a good idea. There's several things I don't know, that I would like to if the help were readily available. Thanks for trying at any rate.

You might select one subject and run it up the flagpole or ask what folks may be interested in. Frm what I've seen it isn't difficult to set up a work group that you can have full control over.

It sounds promising. I don't know what I could contribute, but I would like to learn more about my computer programs. Being able to do it on my time schedule would be great.
