You can find all the information you need about stammering/stuttering at www.stutteringhelp.org. Their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" is what my family used to improve their speech.
Another good site is http://stammeringcentre.org/

Most people who stammer will grow out of it. There are those who say stammerers need a speech therapist to give them special practice. In general, however, stammering is caused by anxiety, so techniques to calm down are the first order of business.

Hypnosis works wonders for stammering. With hypnosis it usually only takes between 2 to 6 sessions and your the stammering is gone permanently.

Stammering cannot be fully cured. It can only be surpressed. I have a stammering problem myslef, and when i was a child i used to visit a speech theropist and she used to go through speech exercises, and now I hardly stutter at all. Obviously, my theropy was for children, but similar theropy is available for adults! Look online or visit your doctors surgery, and they will probably have info on it.

First of all, I feel your pain. I stammered very, very badly as a youngster. I still stammer at times. Being bold helped me.

Practice talking when no one else is around. I know a friend who quotes movies that he knew well until he could recite them without falling behind the actors.
Also do not feel like you have to rush through your speech, find your pace and don't let people hurry you.
And of course, there is know shame in going to a speech therapist, I couldn't pronounce "r" growing up. Now I speak in public about once a day.

Yes, seek out the help of a speech therapist. if you go to public school, they may provide one for free. Or - it could be covered by your insurance.
