It is good to learn that you gave of yourself to your family this year. I bet they were pleased with what you'd done and when looking at the family photos of the time I'm sure you'll see the love shining in their eyes.
I was brought up during World War 2 and to get an orange, a paper hat and some nuts in our stocking was an event. Perhaps a lead soldier or two with a hand-made toy would have been 'dropped off during the night' if we were lucky.
Today though, as we can see from the TV news, it's all about buying bigger, better and more expensive gifts for the children and for ourselves of-course.
Trade does keep the world turning I guess, but moderation in all things seems to have been forgotten.
Christmas to me shows human greed for the most part with just token references to what it should really be about. As a race we need to take a long look at what we are turning into and stop sweeping things under the carpet and on to the credit cards. Here's to a more thoughtful and loving 2008.

It's because we live in a materialistic society where people live far from relatives and have few true friendships (heck people don't even know their neighbors anymore). We seem to get some sort of sense of "worth" by owning things and obtaining "new" and "sparkly" crap and showing off our worth by what we can get and buy for others. You're right, Christmas has lost some of its meaning due to this, but there are some of us that have stuck with simple loving traditions, giving to those in need, and the joy of time with family and friends. The most simple gestures sometime have the biggest impact on people, like stringing popcorn and cranberries with children, singing carols door to door, taking a drive to see holiday light displays or giving of yourself and your time to those that need it. Have heart, there are still those that feel the same way as you do :-)

To me Christmas is about love and family this is something I almost lost because I did drugs but Jesus has delivered me and now i am thank full that I have a family, Love, and great times with all of them. Sorry for being so out spoken but this Christmas had a very special meaning for me. How many gifts did I get? None and I am thankful for that also
I had the best Christmas ever.......

Thank u very much I like what u had to say n I can say this like u I did not n have never forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas,is all about I hate the commercialism of what the meaning of Christmas,is about.
It means to me that Christ, was born n came into the world to suffer and die on the cross for our sins n that who ever believes in him shall have ever lasting life n not have a trip to the mall to get the latest Ipod.

My thoughts exactly, people worry about what they get and not take the time to bless someone else and help others during this time. We always have a little cake and light a candle and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus, we do this every year. We have so much to be thankful and so many blessings in world. We should be praying for the people that live on the streets and the lonely people in nursing homes that do not have loved ones to visit them.

Before television and commericals were invented (in the early 50's I think) , Christmas used to be about family, friends, and Christ. Now it has been commercialized and it's all about "whoever can get the most toys and gagets". I hate it! I far more enjoyed Christmas as a child in the 60's before all the commericalism took over so badly than I do now. To me, health, family, and friends are all I need for Christmas.......no gifts are any more important to me than these.

well I belive that christmas is all about giving...It teaches you how good it feel's to give and recive a gift.Helping you practice everyday life skills like always giving to charites, childrens hospitals,ect....I also think it has to do alot with family.Lots of family members are split up in diffrent countries and are not abel to see eachother as much as they should. This holiday brings all family together to celebrate. And that is a great thing!.Christmas is such a special holiday. Not only for the spoiling for the presents but for many other great reason's of life!.Happy holidays!

Hyping up to anxiety.: the TV ads were the worst ever this year. Every croaking crooning scribble scribe who can mention Christmas or snow is out to capture some eternally royalties stripping dirge..; to be reheated every year hence...
You think its bad ? it can only get worse.
We think Global Warming is confusing thr seaons shukz, the commercial "Christmas" will soon be everlasting!

i used to be VERY materialistic and would DIE over the new juicy couture bag or abercrombie jacket. but i've started to ask people, in lieu of presents, for donations in my name to my fave charity organization, Children of the Americas(i know the organization people personally, so in case you want to check them out, they are a very worthy cause).
To anwer your question; Christmas means a lot of things to me. Apple cider, christmas carols, admiring the tree, praying for the less unfortunate, and being with the people you love.
Just making the world a better place, pretty much.

I so argee with you!!
High 5..LOL
but christmas means togetherness, love,
and family. Even if you should celebrate that
everyday, you can't because, there are people
in your family that you can't see everyday. So you
should embrace that day.
People buy gifts, i'm not saying it is wrong, but
thats not what Xmas is about...
I decide to be with family..which is the best part...â¥
Thanks for the good question...
Have a happy Belated Christmas
