their all measured in bytes:

kilobyte (kb) = 1000 bytes

megabyte(mb) = 10 000 bytes, 1000 kilobytes

gigabyte (gb) = 100 000 bytes, 10 000 kilobytes, 1000 megabytes

I'm gonna go a little further into what they've named so far:

terrabyte (tb) = 1 000 000 bytes, 100 000 kilobytes, 10 000 megabytes, 1000 gigabytes

petrobyte (pb) = 10 000 000 bytes, 1 000 000 kilobytes, 100 000 megabytes, 10 000 gigabytes, 1000 terrabytes

The magic number is 1024.

There are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte (kb)
There are 1024 kb in a megabyte (mb)
There are 1024 mb in a gigabyte (gb)
There are 1024 gb in a terabyte (tb)

Because it is easier to work with (and usually a close enough estimate) you can use 1000 instead when estimating the memory amounts.

1 bit = one or zero (2 possibilities)
1 byte = 8 bits
1 Kb = 1024 bytes
1 Mb = 1024 Kb
1 Gb = 1024 Mb

These are all in binary of course.

1000 kb is one mega byte, 1024 megabytes is 1 gb. oh and just for future refrences one 1024 gb is one terabyte.

A Kilobyte (called a 'K') is 1,000 bytes, a Megabyte is 1,000 K and a Gigabyte is 1,000 Megabytes - a billion bytes! Gigabytes are the domain of high capacity networks but the demand for more and more memory is growing.
