I have been studying geology for many years. I think I have met 3 atheists, maybe 4 in all those years of conferences and such. I never had an atheist professor. In fact a lot of my professors, including my M.Sc. adviser, are Catholic.

A lot of them are agnostic, though.

I speak on behalf of geology, though. Other sciences may vary.

I don't know how many scientists are atheists but I, being educated in technical and scientific fields, do NOT have a problem reconciling a divine Being and science - not all religious folks believe the literal interpetations of ancient texts. However, have to chime in here to talk to Dr. M up there and say I guess he thinks Dr. Einstein was a complete quack because he definately believed in a Higher Power...

I have heard that about two-thirds are atheists. I don't know what went wrong with the other third.

People who truly believe in GOD can not be a good scientist .

Once you believe in GOD everyting stops. You are a dead meat. You can not progress in science
