what would you do?
for me, i'd be totally lost. i'd never know what to do, and i'd never be able to get another best friend, and i'd cry every day and would not want to go on with life.

One of my best friends did. She killed herself when we were 14 years old. I luckily had our other best friends and we were all there for each other. It took a long time not to think about Claire every time the rest of us got together to hang out but eventually things got a bit easier and we've gone on with our lives. Claire isn't forgotten, especially for Natalie who is Claire's sister, but we realized quickly that we couldn't live in our grief forever. The months following Claire's suicide was pure hell for all us, mostly because we had become more distant towards each other which made it even worse because it felt like I was losing all my best friends but we finally all met up and said our goodbyes in our own way and really looked towards a future.
This all was hard on Natalie and her family, Claire was a special person. They had lost their father in a car accident a year earlier and that was a devestating blow for everyone. Claire acted out and got pregnant, she thought she was in love but when the father of her son left her she couldn't deal. She left behind a four month old boy that Natalie now has custody of, whose almost 8 - we bring him to visit his mother's grave a couple times a year (Claire was buried in California, we all live in Connecticut).

She's been my best friend for over 11 years. She pretty much saved me from making the worst decisions of my life last year when I was too obsessed with getting high and drunk to give a sh!t. She probably saved my life. I owe her the world. If she died I would spend every day of my life wishing it was me instead of her.

Yeah I'd be the same as you.
I'd stay in my room for a very long time, considering whether or not to go on with life, and probably stare at photos of her wishing she never left.

Well, my best friend DID die; my husband passed away many years ago at the age of 37. I 'bout curled up and died myself. The only thing that kept me going was knowing I was responsible for two little kids!
The sad thing is that, while I have good friends, I no longer have someone I consider my "best friend".

I'd be very sad for a very long time. However, I'd cherish every day of my life and resolve to be there for the other people who loved and cared for my friend...and try to help them.

A long time ago, a good friend of mine died on the way to work, she wreck on icy roads. I cried for weeks, especially when I drove by where she wrecked. A few years later, I had a daughter and I named her Kacie, after my friend.

i lost my first best frind a few summers back. her father was abusive and beat her to death one night, and her brther who i was friends with too killed himself because of it. my other friends in our gruop helped a while, but we split off not too long after, and i was able to get thorugh enough to make my current best friend and she saved my life when i was so suicidle in 8th grade, she got me to talk to one of our teachers about it and it really helped cause i've never had the best home situation, i hate my mom, and my father left b4 i was born, and loosing her really made that come crashing down. i haven't told maria(my current best friend) of any of this, it wasn't something i liked to think about then, and i don't see her much now, but i swear, if i loose her too, i'll kill myself.

I would be sad but you have to get on with your own life and yes it is hard to find another true best friend.

I've lost several "best friends", and I feel terrible at their passing, but I am still here and must go on.
