First, since you obviously have a computer, find out whether the writing is Greek, Hebrew, Assyrian or whatever and then what type of metal or stone. From there, you can usually research Yahoo or Google Images for "archeology" "Hebrew carving on granite" or whatever it might be. Forty years ago my mom found something metal in a river in Southern CA. on their ranch which had an old Indian campsite on it and I finally cleaned all of the dirt off of it and through the same process I just described found out it was a bronze gorget (neck piece on armor or uniform) from the British army from the Revolutionary War. Apparently the soldiers used to trade or give them to the Indians because they were shiny. So it traveled a long ways, from the East to the West Coast! Do some research, it is so interesting. Please post a picture. I am dying to see it!

Well i can suggest that you post the pictures on different forums or sites and see if you get and answer about what the thing is. If you don't get the write answer or you are still not sure try contacting geological museums.

Hope that helps you

Bring it to the local museum. Let the experts see it.

Try taking it to your local museum and ask someone there. If you don't have a museum nearby, take a few good photographs of it and email them to a museum.

Take it to the local university's anthropology or archaeology department. Knowledge will abound there.
