What is wrong with people these days suing for 60 million cause your wife died? Or sue McDonalds cause you spilled your coffee you thought might be cold?

Is it to the point where money is all that matters to these people?

I mean 60 million 20 million or 5 dollars the person is still dead.

I understand some suits like if my wife died due to some company knowingly being neglegent and they refused to pay for the funeral I'd sue but only for the funeral costs and attorney fees . Or sueing for hospital fees but why millions of dollars?

They probably think hey something bad happened to me and I can get money out of it, plus I don't even have to really work for it.

This is a pet peeve of mine stupid law suits paying out ridiculous amounts of money.

To me it shows low morals and that all you care about is money.

Plus it can hurt the economy and the small businesses

Richard: What kind of moron puts coffee they know is boiling hot and in a disposable cup between thier legs?
That's just suing somebody because you did something dumb
EX: I turn the gas on to the stove but the self igniter won't work so I take ten minutes to find a match, then boom! I get my face burned and need surgery. Would I deserve money from the makers of my stove because the self igniter didn't work? NO

We are a litigious society to be sure, but you have no idea what you'd sue for if your wife was killed by the intentional or negligent acts of a company. Also, your wife may have a claim for her own pain and suffering under what's called a survival act prosecuted by anyone that has standing in her family.
Lawsuits do provide a pretty good public service that no one likes to acknowledge, namely they help protect others in the future: think of warning labels, or those medicine ads on the television that tell you of every single side effect. Do you think they would pay all this money to denigrate their own product were it not for lawsuits hitting them in the pockets? And are you better or worse educated regarding the product with all the disclaimers?
The bottom line is there are 2 sides to the story. The same people bitching here are the ones that beg for justice once they're hurt.

Because of all the lawyer advertising, giving people the idea they can make a quick buck off an accident.

I remember when all the state bar associations prohibited lawyers from doing any kind of advertising, except a simple yellow page listing, the kind that you get for free with a business phone liine and one or two lines of type describing the specialty that the lawyer or law firm dealt in. Back then it seemed that there was a lot less litigation, and what there was had a good reason and a fair settlement.

There is a joke about 1 lawyer in a small town starving, but 2 lawyers in the same town and they both get rich.
That is what causes most of these kinds of suits. Lawyers suing deep pockets in the hopes that it is cheaper for a company to pay them off without going to trial.
And if they win it is like hitting the Lotto.

actually you cant sue for less than 20 dollars. its in the bill of rights. and people think that you can sue for anything. if you get coffee you have to be an idiot to think that it is not going to be hot. are you kidding me?! people are so ridiculous. you should only sue if there is a legit reason. i want to be a cardiovascular surgeon. the biggest thing i worry about is people knowing that there is always a chance they will not make it through surgery and then sue me because they are fat and have a bad heart. seriously help yourself people. im really glad to know that i am not the only one that is bitter about this sueing topic. thanks for posting this! happy holidays!

A lot of the "frivolous lawsuit" cases we see in the press are either for publicity purposes, OR - in a lot of cases - the press misreport them, or don't tell the whole facts.

The "McDonalds coffee" case is a perfect example. They were knowingly selling coffee FAR too hot - FAR hotter than any other store did, and as a result the paper cups were softened by the heat.

When the woman rested the paper cup on the front edge of the passenger seat of the car and tried to clip the lid back on, the softened cup collapsed and almost boiling coffee ran over her genitals. She was in hospital for months with third degree burns, had to have several plastic surgeries, and ended up with no feeling at all in her entire genital region.

For this she got her medical bills paid, plus a settled amount of around $60,000 for months of pain and suffering, plus no pleasure from sex for the rest of her life.

They think it's an easy way to get money. Some people are too lazy to work for their money or too undisciplined to save their money and use it wisley. Not that there aren't legitimate law suits, but the ridiculous ones are the ones I'm talking about.

To sue or not to sue: Lawsuits arise when one party feels another party has 'robbed' them of their property and/or rights and/or privileges, and have put a value on any of the above.

A society particularly susceptible to shame-base legislation is more inclined to have lawsuits.

I think people sue other people for foolish reasons because they are greedy and want to get a lot of money without earning it.
