They did a baseball simulation where they walked Babe Ruth every time in 1927 and even though his average was 0, his OBP was 1.000 and the team did CONSIDERABLY better than when they let Ruth hit.
Even if your slugging is over 1.000, it just doesn't make sense to give them free passes.

Statistically, there would be no reason to. Even the best hitters get put out a majority of the time - last year, for example, A-Rod made an out approximately 58% of the time. If it's a choice between allowing a baserunner or having a 58% (or more) chance of getting an out, most situations say to take the risk. If it's late in the game and/or the score is close, you're more likely to see the pitcher take the "safe" route.

Even the best hitters in the game will fail at least 6 times per at bat on average. Bases on balls, as any manager will tell you, are the very bane of pitching staffs. At least as many rallies have been started with walks as with hits. The only reason Bonds was walked as much as he was in the last 5 years or so is because San Francisco really hasn't much hitting behind him. If they walk Rodriguez that much, he'd score 225 runs a year.

simply becuz u cant defend a walk. and most of the good hitters have protection, they have guys hitting behind them that people dnt want to face (ie. manny for ortiz). but people do walk good hitters. look at barry a few years ago he got over 100 inentional walks in large part becuz he didnt have protection. and also all hitters have a hole some where in there swing, even if it is a small one, and alot of pitchers and managers try to hit that one spot except if u miss it the ball goes a long way.

Because if u walk a rod all the time Posada would destroy you nd if u walk Ortiz all the time Manny would destroy u...........ur idea is awful nd u know nothing about baseball if u want to walk the best hitter EVERY TIME......I understand walking them once in a while 2 set up a dp or for example wanting to pitch to some1 else in a pressure situation. Nd how can u walk ortiz EVERY TIME when MANNY is right behind him. nd think about it AROD had around a 300 avg that means he gets out 7/10 times

Simply because every man on base is a potential run. All it takes is the outfielder to drop a ball or a dribbler up the first base line and then everyone is asking why they walked that guy. Very, very few batters are even worth trying to walk - like the Cheater himself - Mr. Barry Bonds and I would say A-rod any time but the playoffs.

It depends on different situations. Alot of the time the hitters behind these guys are just as good if not better. There is no rule that you cant walk them every time. An old baseball saying is "a walk is just as good as a hit" and alot of times walking players comes up to bite you by these guys scoring a good percentage of the time.

It doesn't make since to just give free passes all the time. Many times if you let the hitter hit, he doesn't get on base anyway so unless the game is on the line don't just walk them.

Their ERAs and WHIPs are bad enough, without artificially ballooning them farther. Why turn a .200 hitter into a .275 hitter by loading the bases for him? Your top hitters are only successful 3 out of 8 times (.375). All-stars, 3 out of 10 (.300). That means the rest of the time, you have the upper-hand!

Would you walk Ortiz with men already on base? Should you walk Ortiz with Manny coming up next. Are you going to walk Manny too. Lowell is up after him.
It is tough to intentionally walk players on certain teams. Red Sox, Tigers and Yankees to name a few have some pretty solid lineups. You don't really want to put anyone on base intentionally.
I don't have a problem with it. I enjoyed watching the Red Sox capitalize off of walks both intentional and unintentional.
