I think feminism is misrepresented by some individuals in our society. It is the opposite of male chauvinism which angers some bitter men and brainwashed women. I do not wish to stand above or below any man. Even though times have changed, sadly many of the women in our society are being taken advantage of and facing helplessness. Some conflicts of the past still lurk in the present. I encourage equality but I feel threatened by males who view us as below them basing their belief solely on gender reasons. I wouldnt say that feminists hate men but you cant blame some of them for having negative attitudes toward the opposite sex if masculinist males in denial try to lower them. Surely I'd see myself superior to anyone who thinks less of me in any aspect just because I was not born a man. The double standard is always evident. I do NOT hate men but I believe that all human beings are equal which is something that should be accepted.

Men reject feminism because they have to give up power, and nobody does that without a fight. Women reject feminism for the same reason that black slaves beat other black slaves for their white masters. Another example. Jews in concentration camps killed the other Jews, released the cyanide, and cremated the bodies - not the German officers. In both cases people harmed themselves because of indoctrination and the belief that "it would not happen to them if they cooperated."
If a woman "has it good," and all of the traditional things have worked out for her, she has no reason to rock her own boat. But the traditional ways destroy a lot of women, drowning them with a life that can become a living hell, and their sisters in the lifeboats (picture the movie "Titanic") won't slow down, turn around or glance their way, because they are simply looking out for number one.
"Backlash" completely addresses this issue. "Let's scare the women into conformity by calling them ugly names." That works on children and a surprisingly large number of grown women.
Now, for cross-examination.
Jonmcn49. I don't know what you are talking about. Perhaps you could have elaborated or cited references.
Indifference to a need is still taking care of number one. "It doesn't affect me, so why should I care."
Dafdasdadfdfddf or what ever your name is, I presume you think that Martin Luther King had no reason to protest unless he preached for equality for the white man. You probably think things were so unfair back then for white men because black people didn't have to worry about who to vote for, or govern the country, or fight in combat positions. Black people should have fought for a white man's right to stand at the back of the bus. Also, why would you think I would want to be your contact. Are you joking?
Fundamentally, the person with a ten mile head start in the race doesn't need any help. This is obviously a difficult concept for some people. If you are on the top end of the seesaw, and you get equality - you are coming down... It's not bias against men. It's physics.
Cassius. I will, would and have done all of the things that you say, and it was great having someone to take care of me at far less the market price for the same services.
Gun's fan - here's some victim mentality. ESAD.
What great feminine privileges do I have? I went to law school on an academic scholarship, and was passed over for jobs that went to marginal half-wits who "looked the part," because men would not take legal advice from women. They do now! All my clients are men.
Ruthie, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that slavery was supported in this country for centuries by the church, based on the Bible. Ham, the son of Noah saw his father's nakedness and was cursed to be a slave as were all of his descendants. Also, feminine and feminism come from the same root word. They have no similarity in meaning and aren't meant to. Do you read the Bible or does a man tell you what it says.
Next point...I wonder if Martin S. has ever heard of affirmative action. I am sure that he is against that also. I don't need to fight that fight here. It's over, you lost.
Carlos, be specific about fanaticism and hysterics. I don't see women driving planes into buildings and killing 1000's in the name feminism. That sort of fanaticism and hysteria seems to be in the male domain.
Mindjob. Women aren't beaten legally with a stick the size of your thumb anymore. They were. Why are women suddenly responsible for all the divorces? What about the men who leave the mothers of their children, for younger women, and start a new family, ignoring the old one. What about entire departments in the Attorney General's offices across the US that do nothing but enforce child support on a huge majority of male parents who will not pay for their own children. And yes, you think they were tricked into parenthood, but I don't know how a man could be tricked into not knowing whether or not he was wearing a condom. I'm reminded of something about glass houses and throwing rocks..
Mark hen - sorry about slavery. We live and learn. But black men did get the vote 70 years before women in the US.
So Val. You can reject parts of feminism without rejecting it totally. No movement has total cooperation within the group. But you shouldn't "throw the baby out with the bathwater," so to speak.

We could beat this issue until the cows come home, and it won't matter a hill of beans.

To add on what "Ruthie" said...this was printed a few years ago when one of the founders of the 1960's feminist movement died...

"She died next to her partner of many years, in their San Fancisco home".

...and this is what I see more and more of...partners.

I also see more and more of young people who walk the streets together, aimlessly..coming from one parent homes..not conversing with anyone else, never greeting people they meet, wearing hooded sweatshirts and baggy pants...until the day they disrupt their school setting...and we all scratch our heads and wonder...WHY?????

Many of the men in our society are either drunks or imprisoned, and it's left to the females to do it...and it's not happening...don't listen to me, rather listen to Bill Cosby.

If you feel all is well and good "out there", then do nothing and enjoy the benefits of capitalism, which has never been better.

If you yearn for the return of gentlemen escorting their ladies, or giving up their subway seat, as they once did a century ago, then pray with me.

The old boy network has catered to equality, and now women get just about equal business recognition...although some will say it's still not equal.

However, in general, it's every dog for himself.

I earn way more than my wife and love it that way.

I would enjoy tipping my hat to a lady.

It depends upon what you mean by "feminism".

If you mean equal pay for equal work, the right to vote, non-discrimination in hiring practices based upon gender when a job is not gender specific, then I don't think too many people reject those tenets of feminism.

If you mean pretending that there are no differences between men and women, if you mean women gaining employment preferences because they are "under represented" in an area of employment and physical standards being lowered to accomodate "equality", if you mean that men should not consider opening the door for a woman and letting her go in first or acting like a gentleman when a lady is around, I would say that people are against it because it doesn't accurately reflect reality, fairness, and the truth about men and women being equal but different due to biology.

One story I've heard reported in the news was about a fireman who hurt his back because he and another man and two women who had been hired to meet a quota were doing a ladder carrying excercise and the women dropped the ladder because it was too heavy for them. Sure, the same thing could have happened with 4 men but it's not very likely because the men had to meet a higher standard of strength and physical fitness to qualify in the first place. The women were given a lower standard to meet in the name of "equality" pushed on the government by radical feminists and their political cohorts.

You CANNOT change feminism any more than you can change capitalism or naziism or communism. All these things are too entrenched in themselves. In this 21st century we should embrace equalism - the belief that men and women are born different but equal, are of equal worth, and are deserving of fair treatment under just laws. Feminism and masculism will just fade away and be consigned to the dustbins of history.

Quite simply because the feminist movement is fighting against equality.
They are supremacists and make not the slightest effort to hide it.
The feminists will never be happy ... not in 1000 years.
Even if men are reduced to slaves with no possessions or rights, they will still be complaining that they are exploited.
It is time for the government to stop funding these women.

Val,

Perhaps they do not like the label. When we are labeled, it is to simplistic of an excuse or explanation to speak to our complexities and idiosyncrasies. For instance, I am not just black. I am educated. I am not just a man, I am a Father and all that comes with it. The label feminism makes a person an object by definition and we are all so much more. Behaviors on both sides of the aisle are so dependent on the art of circumstances, environment and personal history. Feminism used as a definitive description of who a person maybe at any given time fails to give them credit for maturation. It may be more acceptable for both sexes to agree on the phrase; "we live and learn." The word feminism may be a more useful terminology that speaks to the past. Moving forward, I dare say...you are not merely a feminist. You are_____________. (Name) and all that comes with it.

You know very well why some do. Equity feminism is one thing, but when a self identified feminist scholar starts calling the " Principia Mathimatica " a rape manual, while another tells you the speed of light is a speed that is privileged over other speeds as a representation of patriarchy, then you must at least question where this so called feminism is taking young women's minds.

I think Pat sums up the hype some believe about feminism, to varying degrees:
"(T)he feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." –Pat Robertson

Feminism is a misnomer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize the answer to that question...although there are a multitude of reasons, the biggest being that some people do not recognize God's will which was instituted for the happiness of men and women to follow for a happy life.

For the most part, feminism is redefined and truly does not represent feminine at all. It results in aggression. The word is a trickery of sorts, a sheep in wolves clothing, coming costumed as something it isn't.

For what some would call feminism is in no way feminine at all, but improperly masked or redefined as feminine. The real problem is not related to femininity at all but, direct opposition or rebellion of everything that is female and God's Word and will for our lives.

Feminism turns a concept that could have been beneficial into a negative for women, but still many women are blinded and don't see feminism for what it is. It's secret purpose is to steal our femininity...... not nurture it and build on it.

Ask yourself: Why do so many feminist look masculine? This could be a BIG question for females to ponder?

Even a lot of feminists reject feminism although not knowingly and much less admitting it. Ever came across a successfull woman ? Good. How many of these women of whom some portray themselfs as feminists, are willing to support a family AND hubby on their high powered income, or even to marry somone who makes only half of what they make themselfs ? See, almost none nada zip. So ironically it is a good bunch of feminists who reject feminism and when you are a feminist "sort of" you are somebody who wants his cake and eat it too. And no matter what you lable it it is nothing more than selfish self centered and antisocial.

They reject how feminism is currently perceived, which is a movement for self-serving extremists. The vast majority of men and women support gender equality enthusiastically.
