I don't want to see my in-laws until next year (if I have too). Make me feel better and show me I am not alone.

Oh boy you hit this one on the head.
Great question.
Everyone has someone in the family that is a pain in the butt.
In our family it is my sister-in-law.
She has never made a family dinner or had any of our family over to her house in all the time she has been married to my brother ( 12 years).
This year she wanted to bring her son who is a sous chef (which was ok) but then a few days before Christmas she has my brother call and ask me if her son can bring his friend who is a head chef who none of us have ever met.
My poor brother was in the middle, she had him calling me back and forth.
I could hear every word she was saying to him while he was talking to me on the phone.
When I said I didn't think it would work (we were going to be 11 people) and my husband had a heart attack a couple of months ago.
She freaked.
Whenever she comes over she always drinks too much and is obnoxious.
I didn't invite them last year which was the first time ever and it was the best Christmas our family has had in 12 years.
Anyway, when I heard her tell my brother that I should go **** myself I just said sorry that won't work for us.
I'll pick you up and just the two of us will go for dinner in January.
What a B***h!!

I guess I have too many dysfunctional sides on my family.

But I have a father in law that shuns my children (his stepgrandchildren). It really ticks me off. He acts like they aren't even there so I stopped going to my husband's Christmas get togethers. He secretely mails his "real" grandchildren money for Christmas.

Also, my grandmother is 78 years old. I don't know if you can call it annoying or comical but she definitely makes Christmas quite interesting. Because she is getting older, she isn't quite the great cook she used to be. She started cooking Christmas dinner a week ahead of time. She had the dressing, coleslaw, deviled eggs ready and setting in her refrigerator. Everybody was warned not to touch it. We didn't want to hurt her feelings so we put it on our plates and when she wasn't looking, we dumped it in the trash. Also, when we tried her fruit salad, we found quite an interesting ingredient...she added fruity pebbles into the recipe.

She always buys my teenage daughters clothes that they don't like or not the right size.

My sister bought my son some shirts for an early Christmas. My grandmother tried wrapping them up and giving them to him for a Christmas present.

Gotta love her but her little quirks can get quite annoying!

Well, most of my in laws,, I like but I have this one SIL who thinks she is so much better, prettier, smarter than all the rest of us... she is very loud and aggressive.....and loves making an entrance...always too late to help with any dinner preparations and naturally has to leave before the dishes are done..,,,she's so busy you know,,unlike the rest of us....yeah right.....

We were all sitting around in the living room after dinner one Christmas,,,it had been pretty hectic all day and we still hadn't opened presents yet....,,,,and talking about how peaceful it was....then this loud noisy woman walks in, late as usual, so she can make an entrance...... and says,,"Just look at you all sitting around, being bored to death,,,this party just doesn't start until I get here"....then she started distributing her gifts,,,which were never in keeping with the person she buys them for....and talking about how she had cheered us all up....we wanted to smack her..but I guess every family has one like her.

My husband's cousin came for christmas and brought his girlfriend, HER baby (not his) and her brother. In the middle of dinner she threw a fit because HE wasn't taking care of HER baby for her, which led to the fact that the only thing he got her for Christmas was an engagement ring (what the.....else does she want??? He spent pretty much every penny he had on that!) and they ended up leaving early. At least he called and apologized. I hate to say that I hope one of them breaks off the engagement, but I dread seeing her every year for the rest of my life.

i'll actually tell you a funny xmas story (even though it happened before xmas), just to cheer you up: i was playing sardines with my cousins which is where one person hides and everyone else looks for him/her. i was the one hiding, and so i hid in the shower behind two different curtains. when they seekers came to look, they only checked in the first curtain, and didn't bother to check the second one. i was staying there, stilll nobody knowing i was in the bathroom, when my uncle walked in and locked the door to go use the bathroom. it was very akward. outside of the bathroom i could hear my cousins and mom yelling out my name, saying they give up, but i couldn't say anything, because my unc was still there. he spends like FOREVER fixing his hair or something. when he finally leaves, with my cousins and mom still looking for me, i walk out right behind him.

i don't think my uncle even knows know.
