by default usually the listing is ordered by items ending soonest.

If you wait for the last minute it can be cheaper and whats the point in bidding when the auction opens if someone's gonna outbid you at the last second.

Cause a lot of people wait to see what the last bid is and try to beat it so that they can be the last bid and get the item.

A lot of people don't bid, or don't bid much, until very close to the end of the auction, because they feel that otherwise somebody will outbid them.

Because the bid is ending, Why wait for all of the bids to pile on top of yours?

some people have a sniping service which will actually bid for them the amount they want to spend at the last minute

its a personal thrill and mental high most everyone gets outbidding someone else by $1 or so. never ask why... just be thankful they do it and you get more for your item
