I have a 2002 chevy express van 5.7 v8 Engine.
Does it harm it in any way?

If you put in E10 (10% ethanol), the van will run fine, however if you put in E85 (85%ethanol), more than likely the van will run very poorly or just die.

Gasoline is about 14.7:1 Air Fuel Ratio. I believe Ethanol is like 27:1 ratio. So it will run leaner and Ethanol does not have the same amount of BTUs as Gasoline does. It has a Higher Octane Rating.

Is not as corrosive as Methanol but it does corrodes too. As far basic functionality back in the 20's Ford used to sell a Model T that ran with Gasoline and one with Ethanol (Moon Shine) for places that gasoline was not available. So this is nothing new either.

So to the engine itself is not harmful just the fuel system is not designed to use that mix of alcohol and the computer mapping is different also.

The alcohol in the fuel is corrosive to engines that are not properly prepared for ethanol. It will not cause immediate problems but will cause considerable damage in the long run. Of course what matters is the ratio of alcohol to gasoline.

Happy New Year!

Well, let's start a list. It will eat most of the gaskets in and around the fuel system and probably the hoses.
Will rust most of the metal in the fuel system.
As it has up to 25% less energy than fuel and therefore you need at least 20% more volume to go into the engine, your injection system probably cannot supply enough volume of this stuff to burn at efficient levels, if at all.
If it will even run,,you will have no power, as your timing will be EXTREMELY retarded to use this fuel.
And this is JUST THE START. DO NOT DO THIS!!

listen to the first few aswererws they seem to know their stuff

of you do try to change it the only thing i know of is that the air fuel ratio will be far off causing very poor performance and poor emissions

Bad things. You should be ok this one time though...just drive it carefully. Better yet, drain the ethanol
