The United States Constitution is the most important document in the history of man. I say this for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it is the first governing document to recognize that our freedom and rights are granted by our Creator, and not by government(s). Second, those who signed our founding document, the Declaration of Independence risked, and literally lost everything to give us the greatest nation on Earth.
Having said this, it only protects the freedom of the people if the people are strong enough to protect it. In the last 60 years we have allowed our political leaders to undermine the very foundation of our nation. Our Constitution is very clear on what powers our federal government can wield. Yet we elect those who promise to give us more. The idea of welfare was disgusting to our founding fathers, and rightfully so. Our country was founded by those who believed in individualism, ingenuity, and self reliance. These traits are important to maintain the weak central government our founding fathers envisioned. The idea of losing our individualism to work toward the "common good" is bad for the people, but great for leaders that want to control the people.
One of the beliefs of our founding fathers was that the people should NEVER have anything to fear from government, but the government should ALWAYS fear the people. I think we have lost this today.

I agree with what you say below: It is a good constitution, but there are some people, in the White House and elsewhere, who try to present it as "outdated".

I'm guessing you're voting for Ron Paul? Thank you!!!
The Constitution is not an "evolving" document. In the last 100 or so years, we've strayed away from it, and now we're headed towards fascism (watch the movie Freedom to Fascism, it's online on google video).

I really love the spirit of the document. A new nation choosing self governance over tyranny. The Constitution is a fundamental part of who we are as American's. I think Ron Paul is actually pretty smart to dig it up and reference it as he does. It beats the 300 Reagan references I've heard this year.

It is now a problem. It is interpreted to mean whatever the current justices say it means.
the true expert on this constitutional problem has a blog you should visit. dr. sanford levininson, teaches at yale and univ tex law schools, has a new book called "our undemocratic constitution" that is crucial to understand. he appeared with bill moyers this past weekend and sounds extremely intelligent and on target. check it out.

Did you know that if you only get 30 out of 60 questions correct, as a student in my state, you still pass the Constitution test? Since when is a 50% a passing grade? Maybe it's planned to be destroyed? Parents, please do your job, as I will mine.

it is B for 3 motives >in the DI TJ wrote "We carry those truths to be self-obvious, that all and sundry adult men are created equivalent, that they are endowed by employing their author with specific unalienable Rights, that between those are existence, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.-" for sure TJ believed that "adult men " had extra Rights than those that he reported >The shape has a technique to amend it would maximum folk of the folk experience the would desire to do finally the pass of human background is that via the years human beings will unavoidably get extra rights. in the international of 1787 the ideal of a human beings to manage themselves w/o the approval of God or a King develop right into a thorough theory.

It is the reason the USA became one of the greatest countries in the world.
Our leaders do not understand this. They lack the ability to apply those ideas to today's world . What a pity for us.

It is better than anything we could come up with today. I was surprised how short it is the first time I read it.
