On the bottle of doxycycline it says to not lay down for at least 30 minutes after taking it, does anyone know why? Has anyone ever taken either of these medications? Do they make you vomit?

I have used both of these medications before. The reason for the not lying down for 30 minutes after you take some medications like Doxycycline is because when you try to lie down so soon after taking it it could cause a back up causing coughing to occur.

I had it happen to me one time when I forgot to sit up for the 30 minutes before trying to lie down again.

As for the Doxycycline (and other antibiotics can do this) can cause nausea and vomitting if you don't eat something beforehand or like I have to do when I'm on antibiotics (depending on the kind, because some you can't take with milk) I take them with a glass of milk.

Before taking this medicine

You should not take this medicine if you are allergic to doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics such as demeclocycline, minocycline, tetracycline, or tigecycline.
To make sure doxycycline is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
- liver disease;
- kidney disease;
- asthma or sulfite allergy;
- a history of increased pressure inside your skull;
- if you also take isotretinoin (Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret); or
- if you take seizure medicine (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), or a blood thinner (warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven).
If you are using doxycycline to treat gonorrhea, your doctor may test you to make sure you do not also have syphilis, another sexually transmitted disease.
Do not use doxycycline if you are pregnant. It could harm the unborn baby or cause permanent tooth discoloration later in life. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.
Doxycycline can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about using a non hormone method of birth control (such as a condom, diaphragm, spermicide) to prevent pregnancy while using doxycycline.
Doxycycline passes into breast milk and may affect bone and tooth development in a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are taking this medicine.
Children should not use this medicine. Doxycycline can cause permanent yellowing or graying of the teeth in children younger than 8 years old.

The thing with Bacterial Vaginosis treatments is that it's antibiotics, which can cause a yeast infection. I got a bad yeast infection after being treated for BV, so you should pick up a Monistat 7 from the grocery store. That usually helps.

They can make you extremely nauseated. And I know that from personal and by proxy experience - they can make you so nauseated that it can lead to vomiting. Doxycycline, I know, is an extremely powerful antibiotic. I don't know much about metronidazole, never having taken it myself.

I have taken the metronidazole and it gives you this metallic taste in your mouth its so gross. That was the only one I prescribed and it didn't make me sick at all, but the other one I have no clue about
