My son had it last week, they gave him erythromycin ointment. Its the same stuff that was put into their eyes at birth so you may have brought a tube home from the hospital with you. There are some over the counter drops that can help with the redness.

Doctors only.
It can be difficult to tell if it is viral or bacterial. For pinkeye- they give antibiotics to clear it because the complications from not treating it can be very, very bad. Check out the link, call your doctor in the morning- and for tonight- put a thin layer of vaseline on the eye itself to help prevent the eyelashes from sticking together. Very warm compresses and cool compresses also help.
Good luck!

Another mother once suggested chamomile tea bags were a natural alternative for pink eye. She says to rub the moist (cooled) tea bags underneath the eye but not to use the same bag for both eyes because it might spread. Good luck.

GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!! Regardless of the kind of infection it is always best to go to the Dr.'s office. They can prescribe you the proper medication. And for all you know it may not be pink eye it could be any # of things. My son used to get goopy eyes that were red and he constantly rubbed them it ended up that his tear ducts were blocked. Always go to the doctor.

I'm not sure if this is ok with her age, but I'd check:
when my 12 year old had pink eye, we used visine. does the pink eye come from an allergy, does your daughter itch it? If she doesn't by the regular eye redness visine. but if its itchy, buy the allergy visine.

it really depends on if it is viral or bacterial- not a lot of people knwo that pink eye comes in both- viral usually goes away on it's on but if it is bacterial they cna prescribe you an ointment- for now put a warm compress on it
