You probably have a yeast infection, which is fairly common in women, especially young women. It's not a sexually transmitted disease.

The vagina of women is normally colonized with a mixture of bacteria and a few yeast. The predominant bacteria are Lactobacilli (which are same type that are in yoghurt) and they produce a lot of acid, which creates an acid environment in the vagina. Yeast don't like an acid environment, so they don't thrive and their numbers stay small. If something happens to destroy the Lactobacilli, then the acid environment will become more alkaline, which yeast love. They will start multiplying and take over, which then causes all of the symptoms of a yeast infection.

Causes of Lactobacilli destruction can vary and can include use of antibiotics, tub baths (in which soap enters the vagina), douching, changes in hormone levels due to pregnancy, etc.

You can buy over the counter creams that you insert into the vagina and leave overnight. Or, if you want a cheaper cure, just go buy some live culture plain yoghurt and insert some of it into the vagina overnight. Do this every night for several days and the yeast infection should clear up. The idea is to recolonize the vagina with its normal bacteria so the acid environment can be restored.

If the symptoms don't clear up, you should go see your doctor, who can order one or more tests to rule out a bacterial infection. The first test he'll do is a wet prep to see if you have an increased number of white blood cells and any suspicious bacteria (yeast can also be seen on a wet prep) and he may also order a culture. Vaginosis, mentioned in previous answers, is caused by an organism called Gardnerella vaginalis, and is usually associated with sexual activity. One of the symptoms is a fishy smelling discharge.

Since you are not sexually active, I seriously doubt that you have anything other than a yeast infection (caused by Candida albicans).

It is most one of two things. It could either be a yeast infection (also known as thrush) or bacterial vaginosis. If you have NEVER been sexually active, thrush is more likely, and can be caused by all sorts of things upsetting the balance of your vagina such as perfumed soaps, antibiotics, stress, the birth control pill etc etc. Some people even get thrush caused by their periods. Thrush is very easy to treat with over the counter remedies from the chemist, such as pessaries, creams, or even an oral treatment.

If you have been sexually active in the past, you could have bacterial vaginosis, which is a condition where the balance of bacteria in the vagina gets upset. No one really understands fully why it happens, and its not an STI but it is rarely seen in women who have never had sex.

It could just be a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection. You don't have to be sexually active to get either one of those. Make an appointment with your physician b/c if it's a yeast infection it could turn into something more severe and if it's a UTI then it could travel from your bladder to your kidneys and that is PAINFUL!

This could be an indication of a bacterial infection called bacterial vaginosis but the only way to know for sure is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

hard to tell without knowing how old you are. Do you have your period yet?? If not, it could be a sign of starting it. If not, you should ask a dr.

It could be a yeast infection, or reaction to antibiotics.
