If you go to the hospitol having contractions and not dialating do they still send you home? because you obviously dont have to be dialated to have a c section. im confused about this. I know they will send you home if nothing progresses if your having a natural birth but what do they do if your having a c section? and your full term?
btw i am 3 cm and 50 % effaced

Yes if you go to the hospital and not dilating they do send you home. They usually will kept you if you are dilated to a 4 or if your contractions are 3 to 5 min apart. No you don't have to be dilated to have a C-Sec, but then there are diff. reasons people have C-Sec, but some can be sch. for a C-Sec and have a vag. birth. So when your contraction get 3-5 min apart go to the hospital or if your water breaks go. Congrats on your little girl.

My C-section wasn't planned. I went in to be induced, got the Pitocen at 7 AM (0 cm dilated), and at 6 PM was only dilated 3 cm. Because of the lack of progression in labor and the baby's heartrate kept skyrocketing, the doc and I decided a C-section was the best option (he said later that baby would be coming out the next day, one way or another).

I had a planned c-section, scheduled for 4 days before my due date. I never had any contractions at all, and just went to the hospital on the appointed morning. I ended up having to wait several hours because there were a couple of emergency c-sections that day that bumped me, but they just put me in a room and had me wait.

You could call your doctor and ask what the process is in your case.

Heather Y said exactly what happened to me.

I had a csection scheduled, but went into labor a week before... after 4 hours of monitoring me to make sure I was really in labor they did the surgery. I had a cerclage (a drawstring type of stitch keeping my cervix shut), so I was only dialated to 1cm, but would have been dialated more w/out it.

If your c-section is scheduled then you can request they perform a section if you go into labor naturally previous to the scheduled appointment.

If your body isn't ready, though, they may send you home (like if it's just false labor) because the baby may not be ready yet, even at full term.

Only neccessary C-sections are performed due to baby in distress, labor not progressing after number of hours, mother's pelvis is small for baby to pass thru, large baby, etc.

I had 3 c-sections: 1st baby was 2 wks overdue, 2nd baby-doc wont let me do VBAC due to baby's large size (he was 9# 8oz), 3rd baby was born early-preterm labor

If you're having a planned c-section and you go into labor before your scheduled surgery, they will perform the surgery at the time you naturally go into labor. If you go to the hospital and are not in active labor they will send you home until your surgery date.
