Try not to buy anything that is dry clean only unless you are related to the Gettys. Most garments are able to be washed in the home but some require special treatments which we can not give them at home. You could try to hand wash it carefully but it may be ruined. If it was very expensive I would not risk it.

You can handwash it in coldwater and hang it to dry. Or you can get a Dryel kit which you can put in your dryer for half an hour. It's an at-home dry-cleaning kit and it works pretty well. It's something I use myself since I have a lot of suits/blouses that I can't always afford to take to the drycleaners.
You can find Dryel at most grocery stores but it will be cheaper at places like Walmart.

Depends entirely on the rayon. Some will shred or lose luster if washed. With rayon, if it says "dry clean", I'd tend to take it face value, because you may be dealing with viscose.
There are several different types of rayon, including viscose, HWM, cupramonnium/Bemberg, etc... tags rarely tell you which type you're holding. :-/

I handwash rayon, or in the washer on delicate, and hang up on a hanger to dry. Quite often it will need ironed after you wash it. It wrinkles really easy.
