Depends on which day you ask me -- it's a state of mind.

When I reached 55 I qualified for a senior discount in rest-
aurants, and the Goodwill Industry stores as well as the Sal-
vation Army too. We now ask at fast foods too. Often they
will give you a free soft drink (small), if you tell them there is
a senior ordering.
But at 62 I was officially a senior when I took my retirement.
But you can wait til you're 65 to retire. And that is the high
end of the scope. With people being prodded to retire at
62, that is probably the more respected age for retirement.
Otherwise when people reach 65 years of age and can draw
their full entitlement from SS.

Typically you start qualifying for senior discounts at 55, I think. I'm only 22 though, so I don't know when I'll consider myself a senior citizen. Good night!

65. When you go to the movies, they have special discounted rates for seniors. A "younger" senior is usually 55.
Hence 55+ comminities. 55+ communities are mostly senior communities and the youngest senior they allow is 55 :D

To get a Senior discount it is 55 in some stores. Some pension plans let you get it at 55. 59 and half not to be penalized by federal government if you withdraw from a pension. 62 to collect a reduced social security check. 65 to collect social security and medicare benefits.

I considered myself a senior citizen when I hit 65. Elderly is a different matter, I keep moving that bracket upwards and I'm close to 75. When you get up to 85, I think you can consider yourself an elderly senior citizen.

It depends.......AARP is 50, some trailer parks, condos & gated communities are 55, SS is 65, unless you're on disability.
I'm 52, on disability, in pain a lot of days. I can't do the things I used to do (physically) but I'm still willing to try new things. Am I a senior? I don't know.

I am almost 55 years old, and am the oldest person in my work group. My kids are grown, and I think of retirement as just around the corner. Here is my picture. Not sure this link works, but will try.

I belong to AARP and consider myself a young senior because of my age. However, I do not identify with seniors. Most of my friends are ten to twenty years younger than me.

I think senior citizen is someone who is 65 or older.
But I used to take my mom to a senior group when I was in my 40s and they wanted me to join.
I didn't.
People in their 50s get senior discounts at some stores and restraunts, etc.
