I have got bugs and they are driving ME buggy! They are black, and are about the size of (maybe a bit smaller than...) a grain of rice. They crush very easily, and do NOT fly. They started out in a box of croutons (I think?!?) and have spread to any food I have open, and lately, to my bathroom towels, dirty clothes hamper, pots and pans, bathroom tissue paper, even my sheets, both on my bed and clean, folded ones in my closet! Each time they show up my hubby and I wonder where they are coming from and what can be done about them??? I've sprayed for them (temporary solution), and still they "live on". I've bathed my dog, but don't think he has anything to do with them. They just appear...sometimes crawling up the walls or going in the cracks by the baseboards! They're driving me nuts! Any ideas as to what they are and how to get rid of them?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

They sound like Drugstore Beetles. They start from food stuffs or pot pourris and can invade your home. You have to find their source before you can rid your house of them. Start in your kitchen and go through everything. If you have pot pourri, throw it out. Usually you will find them in window sills as they are trying to go for the light. I seal everything in the kitchen in plastic zip lock bags as they like grains, teas, sugars, etc. But they love fabric if you have let them go too long including carpet. If you can't find the source, call a professional exterminator, tell them what you believe you have and let them exterminate. But if you haven't disposed of their source, it may only be a temporary fix. Again, start with your kitchen. Open everything and bag everything.

My dad had them, I know this sounds crazy, but my dad got rid of them by letting his house get to 32 degrees for a week, If you have anything opened then keep it in the Fridge
Good Luck

My guess would be cigarette beetles. I had them in my apartment and to get rid of them you have to get rid of ANY open food that you have either left out or in cupboards. Even food that has a lid, but is not securely sealed can lure them in. Once all the food is gone, and you vacuum up all the ones that exist, they should stay away. Good luck!

Wild guess would be one of the weevils, maybe a flour or grain beetle.... however, like all the rest of the tentative ids here, it's just a guess. Gather up a few into a small glass jar, toss the jar in the freezer to kill them, and then send or take them to your county extension office to be identified. Or look here:

Call a professional exterminator. They could be anything. The experts can tell just by looking at them. And let the pros so the job for you. It might cost a little, but well worth it.
