Ok heres the thing, i joined the army right out of high school like 4 years ago and it seems that more people give me crap about me being in the army than thank me. Im not looking for praise or thank you's but I am tired of getting dirty looks.

For example, I was home on leave and stopped at the mall to pick up some clothes before I went home and some old guy asks if I got a good bonus. I told him I didnt get one for and he said "That suck cuz those body bags look better when your in them."

This is a true story, one of many. Do people really hate us that much or do I just have bad luck?

This was obviously an idiot that spoke to you and he should have been knocked on his _ss for being so rude. Chalk that one up to total ignorance and move on with your head up.
No, many, many people commend and are extreemly grateful for the courage , discipline and sacrifice that American service men and women make everyday. A person who would say something so bold and offensive should be immediately sent to a overseas location to see what is really going on in the world. Those who make such an insulting and inflamatory remark are doing so to make themselves feel powerful when they have no power. This coward does not understand at all, that his privalege to speak to you was won by other service people such as yourself. He could just have easily been born in a country where such a statement would have had him hanging by the neck or shot at dawn in the town square. It is only by the sacrifice of people such as yourself that he could even have dared to say that out loud. This is an unpopular war. People see American boys and girls being killed in foreign nations and don't understand what they don't want to see. The schools in America do a very poor job in educating students about why previous wars took place and what powers the Government has and does not have. I hope that you will be able to forget about these unfortunate individuals who think that they are entitled to spill their venom on whoever passes by. I bet that old guy never served a day in his life and probably has his hand out looking for the next government check that he feels he is entitled to. I'd be more than happy to help send him on a year long vacation to Afganistan or Iraq. I bet he'd be kissing your feet then. Thank you for what you do every day without expectation of anything other than courtesy and respect. You are a hero. Wife of a soldier

I hate the lies and deceit involved and the violence and bloodshed caused by the various governments etc., and the deplorable terrorism which sparked it all off. I hate the erosion of fair play and decency, and I hate that you and others like you, in the army with every good intent originally, were pushed into the war situations and so on, but honestly love I do not hate you and anyone who does is totally unjustified, so do not let them get to you, ignorance is the main factor in such behaviour and these people are no more right than Bush and Blair were or they would use logic decency and respect towards you and others who had their lives on the line for their country be that country right or wrong. Respect and love and hope for a decent future are what you are entitled to. Blessings .x.

I am so sorry that you had to deal with such and idiot! I have nothing but respect for the men and women who have chosen to serve a government that doesn't deserve to be served and a country that truly doesn't understand what you go thru.
I will never agree with a government that will chose to send it's own into a no-win situation....but I would NEVER treat a army/navy/marine/air force service person with such disrespect. Just ignore the aS*holes that act like that.

*****Bring them home .....ASAP !!!!!

As a Viet Nam vet I can tell you that you have it good. The majority of those in the USA support your efforts. However you might just be running into some of the hangers on from the 1970's that spit on us and called us babykillers. Take heart and know that the vast majority of US citizens support you and that those few who don't will have more problems than you.

Bad luck. We love and appreciate you. IN A BIG WAY. But some of us question the authority of the people who put you in harm's way. If anything, you should be stationed in Afghanistan, not Iraq.

It's not you. It's the current government. As an American, I can honestly say I am forever and completely proud of my armed forces.

I would have put his old *** in a body bag! I completely support our troops and stand behind them 100%, Thank you for all that you do. If some americans don't like it then they should leave the country. They have their freedom because of people like you who make the ultimate sacrifice.

Just my opinion, but I don't think its that soldiers are hated so much as, people are sick and tired of this senseless, and endless war that began based on on a foundation of lies (non-existent WMD) and though the original tyrant target, Saddam Hussein has been captured, tried and executed, this pointless war continues for going on 5 years, costing thousands of innocent lives and billions and billions of dollars that could be better spent elsewhere (improving the nation's economy, providing essential healthcare for the needy, creating jobs, etc.)

Since what Ur doing is really supporting the "ruling elite" & their addiction for oil & power at the expense of the US middle class & common people all around the world, then Ur bound to receive flak from people who see thru media propaganda & the cultural baggage of their unbringing.

For a historical background you could read,
"In Flanders Fields: The 1917 Campaign" by Leon Wolff in 1958 on the 3rd Battle of Ypres.

Specially telling is the descriptions of the attitude & feelings of the British public as the endless war dragged on.

I am so sorry. I think you are running into a lot of ignorance. I absolutely appreciate you work, and sacrifice. I do not support the war, but I do support you and all of the troops. I just started working at the local USO to offer as much support as I can.

Know that you are appreciated, and ignore everyone else.

I hope to God that you have just had bad luck. I couldn't stand to think that public opinion of the military is becoming similar to what it was during the Vietnam conflict.

As for me, I say thank you for devoting yourself so selflessly to something so much bigger than yourself. You and your fellow troops are the reason this country is as great as it is.
