I was a freshman in 1985-86 (I know I know I'm too old for this forum). Back then it was Run DMC, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, UTFO, Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick.

Nappy Roots. Unfortunately they haven't released any big albums since 2003 (my 7th/8th grade year) and starting around then I started adding to my hip-hop collection like a kid in a candy shop so they fell off my radar hard. I think they are releasing an album in Spring 2008, but I listened to some of the songs on their myspace page, and they just don't sound the same anymore. And I guess Mike Shinoda as part of Linkin Park too, but Linkin Park sucks now.
