I got 74 point insteda of 75 to pass a section of the CPA exam. Is it common for candidates to fail the exam by missing only one point. What can I do to pass the next time I take. Has this ever happen to anyone, missing by just 1 point, it is sad

Not to me, but I've heard many folks it's happened to...and yeah, it's got to be so upsetting! I'm so sorry :( Go to this discussion forum and you can commiserate with many others in the same boat as you:

You'll see it's actually very common. And don't bother wasting your money on a rescore. Because of the rigorous grading process on this exam, very rarely does a rescore result in a change of score :(

But at least take comfort in the fact that you are VERY close - much closer than many others! You can use your score report to zero in on areas of weakness and know that you WILL pass it next time :)

Good luck!

I am sorry to hear that you only missed by one point. While I wouldn't say that it is common to miss the needed 75 by only one point, I have heard from a few other people in my firm having the same score. The good news for you is that all of them passed those sections on the second try. Don't get discouraged!

Just make sure that you study your 'weak points' that should have been on the back of your score report. By simply bringing these score(s) up a point or two you will pass the next time. With that being said, don't forget the parts that you scored well on too! Put in the prep time the same as you did before and there should be enough other material that sticks to get you to the magic number.

While it is possible to appeal your score, my understanding is that since the advent of the computerized exam, not one person has ever received the additional point(s) to get them to the passing score.

Good Luck!

I took it in 1991 and they didn't do that then. If you were that close they would have looked at the other sections and if you did really well on them passed you and if not given you 69 so you didn't feel like it was just one multiple choice question. That was kinda mean letting you not quite pass, I am sad for you, I remember worrying about the results but lucky for me I passed them all the first try.
Study hard for part you didn't pass and without all the others to study for you should do fine next time.
