I have done nothing new recently than simply put on my PC the usual way. I noticed that around the perimeter of the screen has turned black. I tried restoring to an earlier time but noting happened. Could anyone advice what I could do?

This sounds like a problem with either the video drive or with the monitor itself (most likely the high voltage supply). If you can swap for another monitor, you'll be able to tell more about where the problem is.

If its a TFT flat screen monitor, press the AUTO button on the monitor, it should auto-sync it with your video card again.
