Cuba didn't want to join the U.S. It was the U.S that wanted to take control. However, many individual Cubans left Cuba to go live in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Cuba did join the US... they took over south Florida.

Near Miami is the capitol,
Little Havana.

The invasion started in the 50's with intent.

to the best of my knowledge they didn't and are happy to no longer be a puppet of the U. S. but completely independent.
