There are USB SD card holders. It looks like a USB flash memory stick, but you can insert your SD memory card into it. This way, you could download your pics from your camera to your computer, and then insert this USB SD card holder into your computer USB slot and copy the pictures to it.

Looks like they are called "card readers" on Amazon.

Here are some at Amazon:

Most cameras don't have any built-in memory, so to save your pictures, you have to have a memory card inserted. If you've been taking pictures without the memory card in the camera, your camera probably didn't save them. Now - If you are able to review the pictures on the camera's screen itself, there may be a chance that your camera has a small memory to save some shots. If that's the case, I would guess your cord is not working. However - your scenario sounds more like you've been pressing your shutter button and thought you were taking pictures when really your camera never saved them. Next time, you'll need to insert the memory card - otherwise, you may have fun with your camera but nothing to show for it afterwards.

You already know the answer. It only takes memory cards. You can get a multiple card reader for your computer. They usually go for around $10 anymore.

Yes, you can get card reader/writer for $10-25 depending on how many formats you want it to read.
