I have a second hand Inspiron laptop from Dell and up until today the colours have been normal, but now each time I switch it on, even after a full battery charge it comes up, every page, in a dull black and white/negative photo colour. It's doing my head in! Any suggestions?

You might have put it in high contrast mode by accident.
Press Left Alt + Left Shift + Print Screen

not quit sure what you explain but it might be the fonts.
1...open IE
2...tools
3...click general tab
4...click, accessibility
5...uncheck all 4 boxes
