Return it for the BIG cash reward then get put on the local news for finding a wedding ring that belonged a 78 year old woman and refusing her reward and a talent scout would see how beautiful i am and would give me a high paying job modeling for some high end fashion company where i drank fancy drinks on the beach all day with Nicolas Cage who fell in love with me on a fashion shoot. All because i returned this ring I found.

What are the chances that there is a police report filed by the owner for a lost item? The police will either (1) file it away somewhere or (2) a dishonest police person will keep it. Yes I know I am cynical but it does happen.

That being said, the right thing to do might be to call the Police and ask if a missing ring was reported. Then if you put an ad in the paper asking the claimant to describe it, you will have done all that you could humanly do to find the owner. An ad is probably more effort than the Police are going to make.

Probably keep it but I'd try to give it back.

Police stations usually aren't good at this.

If you really want to give it back which would be really nice of you, would be to post signs around the neighborhood/county saying you found a wedding ring.

DON'T GIVE THE DESCRIPTION OF IT. Leave your email on the notice and tell them to email you to describe it to you in detail. If it doesn't fit the description say sorry this isn't yours. If no one collects it within a month or so you can just keep it. You should try the flyer thing though, I would probably do that then keep it if no one found it. Leave your cell if you really wanna leave a number on there.

This at least shows you tried to give the ring back, cuz honestly I don't know what happens in Police Stations with these rings and missing jewelry. Anyone can come up and claim it can't they? I don't know. I suggest the flyer thing, it be a great idea. good Luck, hope you find the owner, or keep it, or whatever you want lol

Is it engraved? If so I would run an ad and let them call you to identify it. If not I would wait and watch the paper in the lost and found. I would not turn it in to anyone. Wonder if no one claims it? Will it then come back to you or will the police just auction it off? I'd just hang onto it for awhile but would return it if I could find out the owner. Have a nice day

I would place an ad in the paper about the ring, and if they could identify it they could give it back. I don't know that the person would think to ask the cops about it. I would definately try to find the owner.

I would do EVERYTHING possible to find the owner. A wedding band is Precious, symbolic of Love, Committment and all that is sacred. The dollar value is nothing compared to the sentimental value.

Put an add in the local paper that I had found a piece of jewelry and where I had found it and would release it to the person who could prove they were the owner by describing it.
ღ Then wonder if it was thrown in the heat of an argument..LOL

But its a wedding ring. That would just be cruel!
I'd try to find the lucky couple ^.^

Put an ad in the newspaper under lost & found. The caller would have to describe the ring in order to claim it !!
