My 2000 VW Jetta feels like its not even trying to shift into higher gear. If it was a manual tranny I would say it felt like I was trying to get to 80 MPH in 4th gear instead of 5th. Also this happens and a few days later it goes away then comes back. Could there be a short in the wiring somewhere?

Check out the following link. It sounds like a problem very similar to yours.

Good luck -- VW repairs are NEVER cheap.

Not so much of a short but a shifting sensor/solenoid not operating or sticking. You can try some motor medic transmission additive that can help with shifting. Try talking to a parts house who can lead you in the right direction. Good luck

Get the transmission oil and filter changed... if the problem goes away; great, if it doesn't, take it somewhere that can test the control unit on the gearbox.

Good luck and I hope you have an understanding bank manager lol

Not likely the wiring or electrical, unless you have a bad electrical speed sensor. Most common cause is dirty filter or a vacuum leak. The actuators that change the speed are the most likely culprit.

Could be a short in the wiring. Most likely it's a mafunctioning sensor. Can you have a code pulled on it?

Nobody can help you with the little information you gave (how many miles does it have? when was the last time you checked the xmission fluid? how did it appear? did you change the xmission fluid, recently? were you in an accident, recently? did you have it serviced, recently? if so, for what? etc, etc, etc)

Consult a trusted mechanic or a transmission specialist.

check fluid level first.thats the easiest.if the car has a ton of miles on it ,it will also act that way.i doubt its the wiring.probably just getting worn out.especially in the winter it will act this way.
