boomer and the krukster are the only 2 players i can say for certain haven't ever used any steroids or anything of that sort.
even if boomer does not play next year, he's a hall of fame pitcher.
he could win 11 next year if he did play, giving him 250. 300 is so hard to reach now, we are gonna see many pitchers in the hall with 250 plus, like hopefully jack morris.
i'd like to see boomer sign with the tigers as the number 5 starter. move nate, his value is pretty good.
1. verlander
2. rogers
3. bondo
4. willis
5. boomer
pretty stacked 5, along with a totally awesome batting lineup.

He certainly gets the award for biggest beer belly!
I believe he could be a hall of Famer if he reaches 250 wins.
Critics may hate him because of his nasty image and I predict it woulld be awhile before he gets even 50% of the vote.
Currently, however, I don't know many teams who would want him on their team. Maybe the Mets because they need experienced pithcing now and Wells is quite well known for the years he pitched in New York. If he doesn't get to 250 wins, then there really is no reason for critics to vote him in. He's never won a Cy Young, but he has won two World Series rings and pitched a perfect game.
He's been known to be very didsespectful to managers and management. He once head butted his manager Davey Johnson after a bad game and loves to criticize GM Pat Gillick for ruining the Blue Jays by trading Shawn Green in his prime.
Wells also spoke out heavily about the Yankees for trading him back to Toronto for Roger Clemens in 1999.
I hope his former teammate, David Cone, gets into the Hall of Fame.
I hope David writes another book. Perfect I'm Not was pretty enjoyable. And I want to hear what he has to say about him signing with the Red Sox a few years back.

With the pitching market as thin as it is, there is always a chance a team, most likely in the NL could take a shot on him, but his last decent season was 2005 with Boston when he went 15-7 so i wouldn't look for him to get much of a deal. Seeing as he is going to be 45 in May, and doesn't take great care of himself, I would say if nobody signs him by Spring Training, it's probably over for Boomer.
As far as his Hall of Fame chances, I can't see a way he gets in. He has had some great seasons, but he's had some poor ones as well and a 4.13 ERA isn't likely to get him in, not when guys like Blylevin and Morris are still waiting to get in. I'm sure he'll gets some votes, but i'd be shocked if he made it

He's pitched a perfect game and for World Champions. That helps his case. There aren't many 300 game winners in his era of pitching (Maddux, Clemens, Glavine), so that helps. It guess it helps IF Clemens is solidly linked to steroid use.
On the other hand, Wells hasn't always been the best guy to interview, and the HOF is voted on by the baseball writers. That has hurt the cause of many players in the past, including Jum Rice, a borderline HOFer favorite of mine. 250 wins would help, but it would be even better if the team he was helping out also won a championship.

I hope so. Wells is a pleasure to watch..he doesn't posses that typical pitcher mentallity. He's more like 'get the ball, throw the ball' unlike most who have to get signs 10 times, look at the ball, walk around the mound, adjust the cap, stare in again. He doesn't seem to have all the quirks and eccentricity as most pitchers. He's also not what one would call a 'crafty lefty' more like "here it is, hit it if you can" He is what he is and makes no qualms about it. Gotta love the guy! I'm so thrilled he wasn't implicated in the Mitchell report not that they're were any doubts!!

I think he will show up somewhere, hopefully for a team not expecting much.

Cheeseburger Wells is a hack. He should retire and stick to beer drinking and hot wing eating tournaments.
