New PCIe 2.0 and current PCIe 1.1 use the SAME x16, x8, x4 and x1 PCIe slots. A x1, x4 or x8 card (PCIe 2.0 or 1.1) would work on a x16 PCIe slot BUT NOT the other way around.

PCI is different and ABSOLUTELY incompatible w/ PCIe.

NO! PCI Express (1 or 2) is made for a PCI Express card, and PCI express lot.
PCI e X1 is the speed of it. These are different types of cards.
PCI is the old version and can only take PCI cards (Not PCI express).

So no, only use the card that is given for the speed and type.
