I like to game and have a bit of money saved up. I could probably go up to around $2300. The dell's look overpriced. I found an ASUS in the $1800 range that is extremely high-powered (better than a $3500 dell). But I hear ASUS has a reputation for lemons. Ive bought two lemons in a row from mainstream manufacturers, and am afraid of getting one from a second-tier manufacturer. I'm also looking at the Sony VGN-AR670 CTO Series Notebook, heavily upgraded, but sonys have a reputation for overheating especially when the processor and memory are upgraded.

I like to game, and would like something with a nice video card, and 2gb+ of ram. Any ideas?

I know they have good warranties, but I dont want to have to send the thing halfway across the country and go half a semester without a laptop, which I think I might have to with a less-than-prominent brand. Its what happened with the last laptop I bought.

Whom ever told you that ASUS has a reputation for lemons just had sour grapes!! Asus is the best manufacturer of motherboards in the world. Companies that custom build high end gaming systems like and use ASUS products because of their reliability and flexibility. Personally, all my company sells is ASUS. Alienware, uses ASUS and even Bizrate recommends them http://www.bizrate.com/laptopcomputers/oid695969831__nwylf--.html
Plus if you look at ASUS's warranty it's 2 years on their laptops. And, you can purchase an extended warranty on top of that. So lemons, I don't think so. Lemmings who won't get away from companies like Dell and HP, well, that's another story. Frankly, it doesn't matter what laptop you purchase if it comes to a warranty issue you will have to ship it away. This is true if you purchase it at a big box store or at a specialty store. The thing to notice is the length of the warranty because like any warranty, you are betting it's going to fail and they know when they are most likely to fail. For the guy below that praises Alienware laptops, Alienware OEM's Asus laptops. This means that Alienware puts their name on Asus Computers. I guess the reason that I recommend and sell Asus products is because I haven't had a returned Asus computer for a factory defect in the last 7 years. I did have one laptop returned, the client spilled a coke on the keyboard.
