To most, that might seem like a silly question...of course you know who the Beatles are. To some, though, it's completely relevant.
Today, my 17 year old cousin asked me a question that amazed me..."Who are the Beatles?"
I don't expect everyone to know every song, album or even the names of all the Beatles...but, I figured people in general had at least heard of them. I mean, they are EVERYWHERE...their music is on the TV all the time, movies and on almost anything that has to do with rock n' roll.
This is the same girl, though, that asked me if Eric Clapton is an evil man...so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. She had got a shirt in Puerto Rico that had his name on it. I asked her why she got the shirt if she didn't even know who he is and she said it's because she liked the colors...lol, geesh.
Does this amaze anybody else? Or, am I just expecting too much out of my peers (after all, I'm only a year older than her)?

I'm not saying that I expect everyone to understand them or like them. I just expect most people to know who they are...just like I expect most people to know who Mother Theresa is.

Once I was telling someone in my English class about some Beatles songs I had listened to that weekend and she said, "The Beatles? Aren't they that band from, like, the 1900s? Like, from World War II or whatever?"
And another time, I was babysitting and listening to my mp3 player. The girl I was babysitting (she's 6) asked me what I was listening to. I said The Beatles. "Who are they?" she asked. "Well," I said, "they're this band from the 60's. A lot of people think that they're the greatest musicians in history." The girl looked at me and said, "No. Hannah Montana is the greatest musician in history."

I think my mom would have a stroke if I didn't know who the Beatles were.
I mean, it would just be too bizarre.
It's like that Kids in the Hall episode, where the guy says he's been living in a closet and he doesn't know who the Beatles are. He said all he ate was pancakes and pizza because he could only eat stuff that would slide under the door.
Then he says, "Of COURSE I know who the Beatles are, you pinhead!"
Oh, please know who the Kids in the Hall are!
But no, the Beatles are pretty ubiquitous, ever since Michael Jackson bought their catalog and started selling their songs to every advertiser on the block.
Bad, bad man.
And that was before all the boys-in-the-bed issues.
Bad MJ! BAD!!!!
And I know who Eric Clapton is, too, though I much prefer the Beatles.

I have had the same thing happen to me. People saying "who are the Beatles" and "Who's Eric Clapton"
I was shocked, then I realized that now days people listen to techno, music that I don't understand at all.
I am quite a fan of the Beatles and a huge fan of Cream, Blind faith, Derek and the Dominos and many of the side projects he has done over the years.
But he is evil, yes indeed, have you heard is solo stuff?
As far as I am concerned that is one hell of a waste of his talent. But perhaps I am expecting too much, I mean Cream, wow, what music... *Clears the tear from his eye*

Some young people just arent that well rounded. I grew up in a house that music was very important, not really playing it, but listening to it. There was a impressive collection that covered all groups, so of course I knew who the Beatles were. My dad also always plays that "Who sings it?" game, so because I rock at that it makes since that I know all kinds of groups. I am babbling, but in the end, no I am not suprised that a 17 year old didnt know who they were, some people just live under a rock.

Because teens don't bother to look up history and find out where music started, former stars etc. The Beatles were the main part of the British Invasion in 1964. They had long hair that looked like Moe Howard from The Three Stooges(Probably don't know them either huh??) What a shame.Do some research on the internet instead chat!!!

Eric Clapton...was in Cream...
Beatles...Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison. I was surprised that my AP Gov. teacher put this as an extra credit because I thought everyone would get it, but apparently they didn't. He usually asks sports questions though and I don't know anything about sports so I was really happy about this lmao.
I'm 17, I don't even like classic rock, and I'm especially sick of the Beatles (no offense meant to anyone, just saying my opinion.)
My friends are obsessed with classic rock though, they all play guitar, and think new music is pretty cruddy (I prefer new music, not radio music but you know what I mean,) etc. etc. They know all the tour dates of bands like Cream...kinda scary...

WHAT? I'm 17 and I'm a massive Beatles fan. Your cousin is making me ashamed to be a teenager... How could she never have heard of them? How? It's just not possible! They're everywhere and have been since the 60's!
She must have been trying to wind you up! I can't think of any other explanation!

Sounds rather like my 14 - 17 year old cousins.
{I'm 25, and was fortunate to be brought up on good music ~ like The Beatles}
One cousin told me she was a fan of Queen {because her dad is}, but couldn't name any songs! Another was shocked when he found out The Who were a famous band from his mum's era, and they made 'good' music!
I'm afraid I despair of most of the teenagers of today ~ so few know what *real* music is :(
