I cracked a bone in my foot 4 weeks ago and it is in a medical boot and i havent been able to walk on it. But it is still swolen and still hurts just as much. So i have to get an MRI. Do u think that anything else could be wrong with it? HOw long does it usually take for a cracked bone to heal in a foot?

Cracked bones take a long long time to heal. I've had a recurring crack in my left foot for almsot 4 years.

Cracked Bone In Foot Recovery

The bone should be healed to bear weight in 6 weeks. The swelling may take a long time to go away. The doctors are obviously concerned that the crack is not healing or they wouldn't have ordered the MRI. There are several reasons the crack may not be healing - 1.smoking really keeps the bones from healing. 2.There may be too much movement allowed by the boot and the crack keeps being slightly pulled back and forth 3. There may be some muscle or ligament damage that needs to be addressed first.
I'd definitely try to do everything my doc told me to do.

ah i fractured my 4th metatarsal just two years ago. They casted my foot for 6 weeks. So if your foot is still swollen, it could be far more serious than a mere crack. Perhaps it is affecting some nerves in the area. Whatever it is, the MRI should be able to reveal it and the Doctors should know what to do.
Until then, ice it.

My son had a stress fracture in his foot. the doc told him that this was harder to heal than a break. The Mri should tell yo what is going on. Good luck

I was instructed not to bear any weight on my foot for 6 wks then I could gradually increase the weight bearing with crutches. The younger you are the faster it will heal.

Four to six weeks usually but you may have bowed a tendon or torn a ligament also. The MRI should tell you.

bones in the feet are tricky, they heal differently. its possible you have another break somewhere they didnt see at first, or some ligament damage...sometimes it takes about 6to 8 weeks for pain to stop
