This was not meant to offend anyone. I'm just trying to pass time here on Yahoo Answers, asking questions. Please don't take offense. I feel blessed to have a healthy pregnancy. I just think everyone expects their baby to come by surprise before their due date, well at least that was my "dream" but I understand he will come when he's ready. I'm just looking to make small talk with other women who are overdue and wishful that the magical moment would happen SOON!

You are funny. I know that the last days last forever. Or at least if feels like it doesn't it?
My first pregnancy was a month overdue and they finally had to take her by c-sec. She came out with long fingernails and was twice the size of the other babies at the hospital at a whopping nine pounds six and a half ounces. I still tease her that it was too cold outside and she was too stubborn to come out. Luckily, it will all be over very very soon.

So when they set it at 42 weeks and there are many people who go at around 38 weeks, what are they going to say? Oh my gosh, I am 1 month overdue! It's pretty reasonable and at that time the baby is developed and most people give birth at 40 weeks.

It is actually just Caucasian, first time mothers who tend to go over their due dates by more than a week. For some reason Caucasians do have a longer gestational period. 40 weeks is just an average that does not break it down by race or subsequent pregnancies. It is just an estimate. Good luck to you though.

i like thinking that i could go anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks. i also like having a for a goal. you can go early or late. your baby's not on a time schedule...(s)he will come when ready. i think out of everything i get irritated with since i got pregnant (due to my irritation level being so high) this is one that doesn't bother me at all.

i didnt go over 40 weeks...in fact, my daughter was born only 3 days before my estimated due date. its just a calculation from the first day of your last period, there is no guarantee or sure way to know when your baby will be born. just as many, if not more, come earlier rather than later.

40 weeks is simply an estimate and is not precise in any way and there are quite a few women who go into labor before their due date and a good example of that would me. My daughter was born 16 days before her due; 1st son born 17 days before due; 2nd son born 14 days before due date.

i disagree with the only Caucasian people go over. I am African American and my baby came three weeks pass my due date. I was mad they would not induce or anything so it is possible. I was giving birth to my second child. I believe you can not give time or dates on giving birth because your baby comes when it is ready. i had to learn the hard way!

I had my baby at 34 weeks and he had to be in the neonatal intensive care unit for three weeks. So just hope for a healthy pregnancy and be careful what you wish for.

I don't see the point in getting irritated over something so silly. Especially while I'm pregnant. I personally know a lot more women who had their babies early than late. I don't think a majority go over, so making it 42 weeks does not make sense to me.
sorry.

It's an average. That is why it's called an estimated due date.
Half of women go over, and half of women come early.
It has to be 40wks.
