The red wire on the original thermostat was connected to both Rh and Rc...the wire covering was stripped in two spots and the wire was wrapped around Rh (first) and the Rc (second/the end of the wire). The new thermostat already has a jumper between Rh and Rc. My question is do I still need to use the "homemade" jumper that the original had even though there is a factory supplied jumper? If not, does it matter/cause a problem if I use both? I have both connected now and all seems fine...the heat works but I haven't tried the A/C yet. Thanks!

Makes no difference, as long as there is at least one connection between the rh and the rc.

You're good to go on AC, too.

The red wire actually feeds both the A/C (R cooling)and the heat (R heat). It sounds like the factory installed jumper was removed and a longer red wire was used as a supply and a jumper. you should be good to go when the heating season is over and we need the air

What is installing a camera going to do exactly? Do you want to get the pictures off the camera or what?
