There used to be this myspace group called "dead hooker storage" (though last I checked it was shut down, and the original material only exists on independent users pages now).
It's many jokes included a photo of a storage unit with blood seeping out from underneath and a caption that reads "you're convenience is our pleasure", and a photo of streetwalkers with a caption of "little do they know, I'm behind one of the cars with a gun."
Given that sex walkers are currently a very at risk population for violent crime, I find it to be kind of a creepy thing to joke about. What are your thoughts?

Rainbow- I would like to think so, but somehow I doubt it. There have been many cases in the past where police have been accused of not acting very quickly when it comes to serial killers who's victims are exclusively prostitutes. A lot of people say Gary Ridgway, the green river killer, could have been caught years sooner, but police didn't take him seriously as a suspect because the person who witnessed him abducting a woman was her pimp. Not that pimps are that great, but if police had taken the claim more seriously instead of briefly questioning him and moving on, a lot of lives might have been spared. The case is close to my heart as I have a friend who's daughter was killed by the Green river killer who mistook her for a prostitute because she was "walking down the street late at night, and decent women don't do that." (to paraphrase Ridgway)

There is nothing funny about someone else's death, particularly if that somebody belongs to a vulnerable group of the population. There is no debate or gray zone about this. It's offensive, to say the least.

"who mistook her for a prostitute because she was "walking down the street late at night, and decent women don't do that.""
The exact same thing happened in England when a lot of prostitutes were being murdered. The police took virtually no action until 'innocent' women were being killed.
That they are joked about in this vile way is not surprising - prostitutes are considered the lowest of the low by so many groups, in spite of the fact that many ordinary men use their services, inc. some of the men who scream about how disgusting the wh*res are.
Street prostitutes are usually women with d&d probs, teenage runaways and women who havw been abused as children and as adults. I suppose the very existence of people like that makes some people very uncomfortable, and the fact that they are doing stuff that some people find morally repugnant makes it easier for those sick individuals to dehumanise them, so they don't have to consider why that woman is in that situation in the first place.

I find them rather offensive. I think it's because I see a baby as the epitome of innocence and feel that a baby's death is the worst tragedy ever. Sadly, this tragedy occurs too often. Joking about it adds insult to injury and only deepens the pain. I do not look down on those who find these jokes funny. I know I find humor in things that horribly offend others, so it would be a hypocrisy to judge another for a similiar thing.

OMG I can't believe that someone had a group JOKING about prostitutes being murdered. That is soo SICK!
I'm guessing that people complained to myspace and they took it down. I also wish Rainbow was right about police contacting the members but I think it's not likely. This is probably one of those things where it's an outrage waiting to happen and nothing will be done before to try to stop it :(
While many/majority of those men may have a sick sense of humour and wouldn't really do it ONE prostitute killer is too many.
I expect that this group was mostly of men from college age to 40 who don't like women in general and think that prostitutes deserve to be mistreated because they are taking money for sex (Hypocrites!!) and would like to hurt them as a way of taking out their anger and hate of other women.
Would any of them actually kill a prostitute? Or HAVE they? I really don't know. But I seriously expect that a high % of them have thought about it and some of them fantasise about it.
There is no question in my mind that some of them would do it IF they were not afraid and thought they could get away with it.

Not funny. Prostitutes are extremely vulnerable as a group to crimes of violence. Among murder victims they also figure prominently, particularly among the victims of so-called 'serial killers'.
Part of the reason for this is that they are regarded as society's 'throwaways' ~ mostly women who have fallen on hard times for one reason or another and are reduced to walking the streets looking for any stranger who will pay to use them for a few minutes.
They are often robbed even of the agreed payment for the service they render, and frequently raped, beaten and tortured even by the men who are supposed to 'protect' them.
Threats of violence against prostitutes are NOT funny because they are very frequently real.
And, when prostitutes are murdered, they are most usually fodder for the media, who paw through every grim detail of their lives, often without mentioning important facts such as 'supports family through her work as a street prostitute'.
Nope, not funny.
Best wishes!

Very creepy and disturbing. Hookers are an important part of the forward pack, as they are generally the most skilled heavy players in the field, and throw the ball at the line outs... Its not funny to joke about them having horrible fates...

That is creepy. I bet the police have questioned every man who posted on that website to see if they might be the type to kill hookers. That’s probably why they took it off; not for being so offensive, but the guys who posted there have been visited by the cops more often than they’d like.

Willy Picton of British Columbia was just found guilty of killing prostitutes. It has been thought that he killed almost fifty women. Nobody seemed to care because they were streetwalkers and aboriginal women.
Tell me what that tells you about how women are seen?
