Sort the stuff into piles. I find laundry baskets are great for this. Pile one - stuff I no longer use. Pile 2 - stuff I use all the time. Pile 3 - stuff I don't use but like a lot and would like to keep (like in a scrapbook of stuff) Pile 4 - stuff I'd like to get rid of (even if it is a purple scarf Aunt Edna just knitted).
After you have your piles or full laundry baskets, clean all the areas like the closet, desk, etc with a vacuum and some good dust rags. Go through the piles that you don't use and that you'd like to get rid of and decide whether to sell in a garage sale, give to charity or throw out. Then do it. Put the stuff from the use all the time pile away neatly on the desk, in the closet, etc. Then take the stuff you want to keep but don't use, get some clear plastic containers and box it up and store it.

The best thing is to section things off into small projects and tackle each one. This way you know you are accomplishing things and making progress and hopefully not feel overwhelmed.
For example:
1. get all of your dirty clothes taken to the laundry room or in a basket
2. hang up/fold and put away all your clean clothes
3. dust
4. vacuum
you get the idea -
Good luck!!!

start at one end and keep going until you make your way all the way around
my problem with cleaning was my floor would be a mess and id clean my closet or drawers or desk.. then ended up with more stuff on my floor.
clean off the floor first.. make piles or wash or trash or sell.. whatever you decied to do with your things.
once it looks clean then start cleaning the places you need to put the objects that were once on the floor
happy holidays

Start with one section at a time. Like go through your closet and the old things you do not want anymore then simply put them in a bag for a Shelter to have or friends.

If you have things that you don't use anymore then give it away to goodwill, or have a yard sale in the spring or sell it on Ebay if you have your parent's permission if you are a certain age.
Store some things in contanders if you are not using things until the weather changes.
Clean the room up!! I have to do the same thing!!! :-)

i always clean 15minutes at a time. that way i dont get burn out on cleaning. and you will be amazed at how much you can get done in 15 minutes. set a timer (or just watch the clock) and just start picking up stuff. after you see how much you can get done in 15minutes....take a break, and then do it again in a little while!!! i clean my whole house this way! and now its almost like a game, i can clean my whole house top to bottom in about an hour and a half!!!

Boy can I sympathize!
From what you describe, you simply have too much stuff. So go through your things and choose the things you don't use any more, and donate them to a local charity. That should clear up space right there.
From there, it should be a simple matter of cleaning and organizing.

Chuck out ; sell ; or give to a charity shop any unwanted gifts and make an effort to clean because during Christmas you forget and it piles up and I understand this feeling :P
My mums always having a moan , but trust me its better to move the stuff yourself otherwise if your 'rents are anything like mine they will move your things and forget where they put them and half the time you lose them!! :)
Motivation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isolate one section at a time.
Focus on that section to get it clean.
Do not put any clutter in the clean section, once you move on to the next section
Donate old clothes clutter to charity - get a receipt for taxes - yours or your parents.
