i saw a fox earlier as i was going for a walk in the fields nearby, and it ran then stopped & turned to look at me, and ran then stopped & turned to look at me.
so i copied it. i ran a bit then stopped & turned to look at it and again, and you know it didn't run away it just watched me.
it was exhilirating and kind of oddly magical.
its not really a question as such i know....
very strange indeed?

the poor creature is used to being hunted on Boxing day. It was probably looking round to see if you'd got a pack of hounds with you!

I'd tend to go with Louse D on this.
You might have been the first human it ever saw do that, and it was trying to figure out why you acted the way you did.
---
My cousin goes river fishing often quite late into the night, and the area he goes to is wooded/inhabited by foxes. One peaceful summer night, he was in the river with his waders on, when heard a noise behind him. He turned around a saw a rather large fox bathed in the light of the full moon , having a sniff at his tackle box. (for a second he imaged it to be a wolf despite not having them in the UK!) My cousin didn't want the fox messing his kit up, so he made a small "growl"/snarl in the hope it would leave. The Fox didn't like this so it growled back, and made out it was going to have a go. My cousin got ready to run, but slipped over, and fell over in the river. When regained his feet, the fox was gone, and he was left soaking wet.

Thought I was the only person to have had a strange 'fox encounter.' About 15 years ago I was living in London and came home from work in the early hours. I disturbed a fox who was trotting about and instead of running off like they usually do, it came right up to me. It was looking at me and sniffing. It wasn't looking defensive or vicious. It was only a foot or two away from me and stood there for about a minute before calmly walking away. It was a beautiful animal and I felt strangely honoured to have experienced such an encounter.

this happened to me when iwas a little girl. I was on holiday in Ireland and was climbing over a gate when i saw a black dog with what appeared to be red eyes.it didn't react the way a normal dog does and it followed my movements. i tried to'shoo' it away but it just stood and stared and stared.i then ran like a mad thing and it 'disappeared'!.
as for foxes they can be the ballsiest of animals my husband has had a 'staring' contest with one late at night.
i think you are a lucky man. I'd love this to happen to me.

It's a bit of a worry if your Foxy was out in the middle of the day. It may be short of food. It may have been a poorly fox you know. Perhaps ring your nearest wild life sanctuary and ask if they have any advice.

Cool story. :)
One night I was looking out my bedroom window at the moon (we have a ranch house), and I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked down, and there was a fox right under my window looking up at me. We stared at each other for a couple minutes, then he went on his way. That was pretty neat too.

i have an embankment at the back of my garden and every night around sunset i have one that sits at the top looking down into the house and the garden and it sounds daft but i feel peaceful when i see it. i have even given it a name of stumpy as it only has half a tail. when i take my dog for a walk i often see it and i swear it nods its head at me as if it is saying hello. i think if you treat anything with respect you will get the respect back , animal or human.

That does sound pretty amazing, to interact with a wild animal like that. Closest I get to that is playing hide and seek with my demented cats xD
