With freedom of speech comes responsibility. Her freedom of speech also allowed her to accept the consequences of her speech. The officer was called in due to the cashier thinking this lady was using a stolen credit card. Had the lady complied and discussed the matter in a rational manner, things would have worked out differently. This person is evidently from the shallow end of the gene pool. You don't argue and curse an armed police officer. I don't care if you're right or not. All that officer knew was that someone was acting irrationally. That's one of the things that is wrong in this country today, a complete lack of respect for authority. There is a system for addressing problems if you are right and the policeman is wrong. It's called court. That is where the problem should be addressed, not by arguing and cursing the cop. She's lucky the cop had a taser and didn't use a night stick or black jack to subdue her. A little respect would have gone a long way in solving the issue.

They cant. Cops can detain you but to be arrested you need to have done something, As for tasing you if you know anything about the use of force pyramid then you would know that you need to follow steps. Officer presence, verbal commands, physical control. Then you get into non lethal weapons such as pepper spray, the taser, bean bag gun, and so on. If the officer still feels threatened for him self or the public then he can move to deadly force. Before you jump on a band wagon or get all worked up over a news story get the whole truthful story with all the facts.

Sounds like some answers like the crafty one from McCrevice are happy to see libs get smacked down with overwhelming and unreasonable force. Perhaps this is due to some psychological abnormalities and inabilities to deal with people on an intellectual basis due to the lack of the required materials. Or it may just be that they are idiots in all aspects of their life, Whatever the deficiencies are, I would like to let McCrevice and other such morons know that if they get a "hankerin' ta smack down some libs" with a taser or whatever I will make myself available... I need a little practice!!! Far less of such ignorant and uniformed people will ultimately serve to insure that our eroding rights can be saved and restored.

Freedom of Speech does not give you the right to disobey a police officer.
This person three times disobeyed the officer when she told him to be quiet and allow her to investigate. That in itself allows her to use the weapon.
Freedom of speech means if you are orderly and obey the law, you may speak your mind. It does not give you the right to verbally abuse someone else, especially an officer of the law.
Please consult and perhaps read the Constitution before you misinterpret it's meaning.

Being on the cellular telephone and strolling far off from her credit card mendacity on the cashiers counter shows how brainless she is. the certainty that she develop into no longer waiting to hold a civil communique with an officer is going to coach that she is probable additionally a moron. the ideal ingredient that she ought to have executed, could be to exhibit regret to the cashier for her telephone rudeness and provide the officer comprehend for doing his activity. i could have additionally given the officer my ideal gentle eye look. i will additionally do alligator eyes.

"The chief said Wright initially approached Beeland under the assumption a credit card had been stolen. In the end, it was determined Beeland was using her own card and had committed no crime."
So she got tased for no reason then. Oh wait I'm sorry, no she got tased for trying to buy a Christmas gift for her father. That police officer should be tried in court for her abusive violation of human rights.

This happened in a public place and caught on tape. Clearly this person was not in control. If you wave your arms and voice to a person who is carrying a gun, consider yourself lucky that you walk away with a little zap. It was the cops best judgement that this person was a danger to others and had to be subdued. I agree with his response in this case. I would also love to see it on youtube!
