Libs rely on brave republicans to save their sorry souls 50 years AFTER history has been written.
"The draft" only gets talked about AFTER the libs make a big stink about politically shooting down our troops when they're actively protecting our country.

Wow...as nobody has 'vilified' either America or it's military leaders and the fact there is no 'left' wing involved, one has to wonder where this question is coming from. The right wing radio nitwits created this 'left wing / liberal' strawman out of thin air. The 'left wing' and the 'liberals' are now anyone who dares to question the goofy antics of the Bush Junta...I suspect at this point that's better than 2/3 of the US population. Are they all 'leftists' and 'liberals'? Never fear...should the US be attacked for real in some conventional way people will line up around the block to defend the United States, but it will be a long time before anyone gets suckered into being a mercenary for another regime like the Bush administration. The ditto-head right has lost all contact with reality. No kiddin'!

If people don't want to enlist, I would think that has a lot more to do with them having better opportunities or not wanting to fight in unnecessary wars than anything done by liberals. If there was a draft there would plenty of conservatives forced to fight as well -- I don't see a lot of conservative college grad types signing up a the moment.

Catch-22? Thats a joke.
Everyone knows the Cheneys and Bushes would never be drafted.
The Rednecks of the Republican PArty will always sign up for "blood and glory". As will the liberals who actually believe there is a just war being fought.
Which leaves those able to think without hatred and too patriotic or poor to leave to be sucked into another meaningless fight for imperialistic goals.

Maybe we should go back to a draft system.
I saw a study showing a drafted Army is more obedient and less prone to go rogue (like Lindsy England and her boy friend)
But what do I know the Marines are all volunteer and we have always been above approach.

First of all, I'm sure everybody in the country hopes there is no next time. If there is, people will still roll up their sleeves and do what needs to be done.

Bush and his right wing cronies have helped to destroy the integrity of America. If you know your government is lying about WMD and pretending to "liberate" Iraqis when they are instead being murdered, then why would you ever want to participate in that sort of evil?

Hopefully, next time, we won't have armed forces that have just been drastically cut by a Clinton to begin with and this problem of enrollment during wartime will be nonexistent.

The villification is actually of the current Congress and Presidential Administration. The troops and this country are certainly not villified.
That said, we should all be concerned about the use of torture, the suspension of Habeas Corpus, illegal wiretapping, and pre-emptive war.
Those are not core American beliefs and as such are perfectly acceptable to villify and in fact should be villified. They are activities beneath the dignity and honor of the United States.

Next time? If there is another 9/11 with a Democrat in office, the Democrat will send troops to Afghanistan to get bin Laden and will televise his transportation to the U.S. in chains.
How was enlistment when Bill Clinton was in office?
