Bruce Boudreau is officially the head coach of the Washington Capitals. Personally I think it's a great move. Your thoughts?

I think it's a great move as well. Bruce Boudreau has always impressed me as a good coach. He is basically working with a similar cast as he did in Hershey, albeit with a dynamic scorer on the roster instead of the occasional AHL lifer.

LITY- Mario wanted to hire Mike Keenan last year? Details, please.

Good for the Caps to keep Boudreau.

A coach like Keenan would be just what the Pens need. He would have toughened or got rid of all the daisies in their system.

Therrien is OK, but you get the feeling he isnt tough enough on the younger guys.

PuckDat..........I think he already has stuck around a lot longer ;)

I think Dale Hunter would have been a better coach, unformtunately he wanted too much money.

Similar thing happened in the summer of 2006 when Mario wanted Keenan to coach the Penguins, but couldn't come to a financial agreement.

Snoop, as everybody knows, Mario Lemieux thinks that Keenan is the best coach in the NHL (and he's thought that way since the 1987 Canada Cup). In 2002, Lemieux got Gretzky to add Keenan to the Olympic coaching staff, Keenan declined the offer. Shortly after Keenan left Florida in August 2006, Lemieux and Shero approached him and they agreed on a contract, duties, etc except Pittsburgh was offering $1.25M a year (significantly more than they are paying Therrien), and Keenan wanted $2.5MM. A lot of people, myself included, thinks that Keenan could do wonders in Pittsburgh...although Fleury would have been shipped out for a better goalie.

I have actually seen bruce coach in the AHL for 5 years, he built the Manchester Monarchs from scratch and immediately made them contenders, however his play off record is not too hot, however seeing the position the caps are in (15th in the east) they need more help to be built not winning play off games, so I agree with you that it was an excellent move

And here I thought Bruce had enough fame from winning that Mickey Rooney look-a-like contest.

Good for Bruce. Hopefully he sticks around the NHL longer as a coach than he did as a player.

My condolences to the Boudreau family. Bruce was a good man to have gone down so early in life! LOL

I think that was the best move ever after our old coach traded Sutherby for a draft choice
