Should I eat whatever I want and enjoy my last years on earth? After all I only have so much time left, right?

HOn, I'm one that will say go ahead and enjoy yourself! I stopped watching my mom's diet five years ago..she is now 88...and when I reach 80 I'm gonna say, to heck with it and do what I wanna do! In fact a lot of studies show that nothing that earth shattering will happen one way or another at that age :-)

It would depend on just how much discomfort a person can handle while they are still alive! You can still enjoy yourself, but if you eat the "no-no" foods in moderation, then you might have a more comfortable existence, rather then having to spend your last days on the toilet or over a bowl. Heartburn certainly makes me a grump...how about you? I ate some heavy fatty foods last night & I enjoyed every bite. Today I don't feel so great. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better when the load of lead feeling is gone from my belly! I'm not even 60 yet, but sometimes I get tired of the bland taste of a healthy diet.
I hear that "Moderation is the key to happiness". I just haven't been able to perfect it yet!

You should still eat plenty of fruits and vegetables for vitamins and fiber, you should concentrate on fish and chicken, however if you have always eaten red meat then continue. We do not usually put those over 80 on strict low cholesterol diets.
I hope you are not eating a lot of sweets and drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. And also take a good multivitamin.
Eating properly will help your mind to function better and affect how you feel so your quality of life will remain good no matter how old you are. No you shouldn't be worrying about everything you eat but you should be doing these things.

If I get to be 80+ I think I'll eat more junk food and enjoy it. Only got 9 more years to go.

I would continue to eat whatever you have in the past if it has kept you alive and healthy for 80 years. I hope I am so lucky!

Depends on your current status of health. I say go for it. If I live to be 75, I plan to ditch the whole cholesterol diet that I am on right now and eat whatever I want.

I think it really depends on what your restrictions are. Obviously, if you are diabetic, you shouldn't live on candy and cake. But, if you are on a low salt, low cholesterol diet, then why not, once in a while, have that seafood fried, or that pat of real butter. If you feel that your life is too constricted, and have a hard time getting those things that make life worth living, then, by all means, enjoy them. But in moderation.

You cannot know how many years you have left, and you want to enjoy them is the best health possible, so yes, you should have what you like in reasonable amounts and really hit the veggies!

Malka - everyone should worry about what we put in our stomachs! So much "bad" food out there today! But if you want to eat anything you like - you have certainly earned that right (I do not want to say) "at your age" - so go ahead and enjoy yourself.

First, I am 64 1/2. If I live to be 80 I am going to do anything I damn please and I don't care what all the well meaning people think about it. I have worked hard all my life, took care of my family, raised my kids and stepdaughter, worried about everything, made it all work, tried to keep everyone happy. Now its my time to be content.
