I thump really hard on my sternum with my fist to disrupt the spasm. Sometimes I have to do it more than once to work. I'm beginning to wonder though if doing this long term could cause any damage, and if I should stop? I should also mention I calm anxiety down by holding my breath until my limbs feel tight and I see spots.

I know there are other ways (and use other ways too), but when I'm walking the dog and there are no sugar cubes, etc around, I punch myself in the chest. I'm not really looking for other ways, I'm just curious if my way is dangerous in any way.

I guess you could bruise your sternum... I'm not a doctor or anything, but I don't think it would be harmful. Though holding your breath until you see spots doesn't sound very healthy.

Hope I helped somehow. :)

Dissolve a teaspoon of sugar on the tongue and they go away.

I have no Idea why it works, but it does.
