Aleve-over the counter

2007-12-26 08:34:31 · answer #1 · answered by momvader73 4 · 3 0

so far everyone has given you the correct info. I too used to have a prescription for Naproxen at a stronger dose. Aleve is the brand name but there are plenty of generics of Naproxen Sodium. I'm pretty frugal so I buy the Target brand and it's great for most pain.

Whether it's you or someone close to you, I hope relief comes soon.

Only the high dose Naproxen needs a prescription. The 220 mg dose of Alleve or any generic brand of naproxen is available over-the-counter without a prescription.

Naproxen is used for:
Treating rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and juvenile arthritis. It is used to treat tendonitis, bursitis, gout, menstrual cramps, or mild to moderate pain. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Naproxen is an NSAID. Exactly how it works is not known. It may block certain substances in the body that are linked to inflammation. NSAIDs treat the symptoms of pain and inflammation. They do not treat the disease that causes those symptoms.

250mg available at THE-MED-STORE.COM for 65 cents a pill, not sure if that is a better price than WalMart

I know that you can buy naproxen sodium over the counter because i use it for cramps. I don't know if it is the same thing that you are looking for but it's worth a shot.

At any pharmacy. Wal-mart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and Eckerd all carry it. If you are taking it for inflamation I'd recommend applying ice instead and if it's for muscle pain use a heating pad. Medications should be used as little as possible or your body will build up a resistance to them.
