DM ---- so true! what u said is good stuff! .... u leave it to late lol you are gonna have alot of law abiding 'adults' being bulied by the teens that fooked that law off.. and being bullied meaning that, they felt that they were kids before hand??? u understand? lol i dont know... its silly...let them have freedom in early tweenties, then with their immature minds on to the marure, they naturally move on to men, settling down and babies,....

UK is a european country where they dont have as much alcohol drunk driving fatalities as in the US so they are lighter on the age restriction there. But here since so many dumb****s do stupid stuff with driving and alcohol they ruined it for all people under 21.
Now do I think 21 is a good age for setting the restriction absolutely not it does not solve anything it just covers up the problem with a band-aid not a solution at all.
The drinking age should be 18 because when your 18 you are considered an adult in almost all states so why hold them back any more?
Some of them are going to drink anyways so why set a higher restriction when it only elevates the problem and causes young people to hate adults who are past the minimum drinking age more.
And in private house anyone who is under 21 can drink alcohol if the parents allow it.
The law only says people under 21 cant drink in public places or buy beer at a store.
And this is too the guy who suggested we should raise the age to 30 or 28.What makes you think that everyone under 30 or 28 will follow that law they will drink anyways. And the one who said guns should be 21 to buy what makes you think they will follow that law too you just get someone who is well past old enough to buy it for you its so easy and that restriction does not solve anything either its just a stupid band-aid feel good symptom reliever not a solution for anything.Oh and not to mention an infringement on peoples rights and age discrimination too.

I am from the US and I think arbirtary age limits for the drinking age do not work. 21 years is too high, and it just encourages young people to be sneaky about it and have disrespect for the law. Since there is all this underage drinking going on right now, obviously 21 year drinking ages do not change IF under-21s drink it changes WHERE they drink. Under 21s currently drink at basement parties so they can avoid detection, so we have created the speakeasies of the 1990s and 2000s by these unrealisticaly high age limits. Studies have also come out to discredit the MADD neo-prohibitionist propoganda, which indicated the 21 laws only create MORE deaths in older age catagories than just simply lowering deaths in the 16-20 age catagory. As for brain function decreasing as result of pre-21 alcohol consumption it is pure junk science. Most other countries have 18, and a lot of them are outpeforming us academically. I believe the answer is that 18-20 year olds should have a transitional period for access to alcohol. Such as allowing on premesis consumption at a bar or resturaunt at age 18, after say taking an alcohol education workshop class, and then allowing purchases for off premesis at age 19 to minimize alcohol in High Schools. To the guy that said young people are more irresponsible compared to years past, say that to the families of all the kids under 21 that have died in Iraq. If an 18 year old can make the descion to join the military, and be possibly killed, he can make the descision to be responsible with a bud light.

The UK is different, you guys are more restrained when it comes to alcohol. The legal drinking age in the US is 21, but that still doesn't stop 15 year olds from getting smashed and trying to drive a car without a license. If we lower the legal age, that means kids will start drinking at 12 or younger (as if some don't already). In America "Don't do this until your X years old" means "Do this as soon as you get a chance to".

I agree, and I don't like the 21 age. No one really follows it anyway, and it causes more problems then it solves. Personally, I believe 19 is best, but 18 is better then 21.
One of the best way for people to be mature is to have responsibility to handle. Simply delaying it for a few years doesn't make people more mature, just the opposite. These people who claim they were more mature also were alive when the drinking age was lower. The high age encourages lawbreaking to disobey the age, and this usually leads to disrespect of other laws.
Oh yeah...I've been to the UK. The British Isles are definitly not more restrained then the US is with the alcohol.

Cognitive neuropsychology 101: various bits of the brain are still maturing and the liver doesn't reach maturity (size and function) until early adulthood, so an age limit of 21 is actually a sensible one (but I don't know that scientific logic was used to establish it originally!!). Also, one area of concern is that the central executive (frontal cortex "commander" involved in decision making) is not fully functional either, which makes it more likely that young/late adolescents will engage in risky behaviours (eg drink driving). So, not a good combo- brain not fully mature and liver not fully functional. Cheers!... non-alcoholic of course?
Why give thumbs down to what is a factually correct response (unless you don't want to hear it??), based on cutting edge science. Of course, you have FREE WILL so can choose to ignore these findings- but at least you are fully informed when you make your choice!

Some people always drink responsible, regardless of their age. I think a bulk of the problem drinkers, need some kind of cyber childhood to replace bad habits passed down from parents who think their drinking don't affect the whole family.
Along with the ones that drink responsible, some will always drink irresponsibly regardless of age. This is not something they can control so age really doesn't matter.

I think that in the U.S things are sorta twisted. I mean u can buy a gun at 18 yet u cant drink until ure 21. I mean i dont like drinking nor do i justify people wanting to drink, but truly what can cause more harm...drinking or a gun? i know both can do harm but a gun is way worse..I think the legal age should stay at 21 but things like buying a gun should also be brought up to 21.

Years ago - 18 year olds showed they were not responsible in their consumption of alcohol - so they lost the privilege.
When I was 18 kids were not mature enough - and it seems to me- the maturity level of kids has only dropped.
Yes - I support a 21 drinking age. By 21 you are in college and hopefully have grown up.

Do most people that age drive cars in the UK?
Transportation in the USA is different that much of Europe and the UK in that much of it is quite spread out and there is not effective mass transit puplic transportation.
So you have alot of people who are driving cars at 18. And many of them are a menace on the roads enough as it is.
